Elemental
Elementals are a type of monster that thrives beyond what humanoids would consider livable territory. They can be broadly divided into four types: air, earth, fire, and water. They can also be found in settled lands in places where their element is abundant or when summoned by mages. Elementals that embody none or multiple of these aspects also exist, though they are less common in the wild due to the specific circumstances their creation requires.
The Four Elements
Air elementals are born at the edge of the sky, well above the floating cities of the Air Genasi who owe them their existence. Earth elementals arise from deep within the earth. Some contend that they arise spontaneously out of rocks, while others say they are born at the edge of the great forge that lies at the planet's center. Both earth and fire elementals are most common in the The Scathe, where the sun never sets and even the oceans are said to burn. Water elementals are born deep in the cold oceans near The Rime. Though both they and air elementals are most common in the sunless lands, they can be found wherever their element is concentrated.Genies
Genies, including Dao, Djinni, Efreeti, and Marids, also take elemental form but are blessed with greater intelligence than most elementals. Genies are sometimes involved in the creation of Genasi, though it is not certain if they are required for this process to occur. Regardless, both Genies and Genasi are born during particularly volatile natural events like hurricanes, earthquakes, infernos, and tsunamis.Greater Elementals
Some of the most fearsome monsters across the various planes are elementals. Leviathans are known to prowl the volatile Wa'Kuvan Sea, and Phoenixes endanger travellers through the deserts of the far east. A summoned phoenix helped start the Phoenix War between Ramanthas and Cirithas in 3173 AK.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
