Blood Wailing

Summary

Blood wailing is a loud form of music that features scream-singing and magically amplified instruments. Blood wailers aim to sing loud enough that they destroy their own voices by the end of the performance. Enduring significant pain is seen as crucial among most practitioners, though most use healing spells to repair their throats quickly after the performance. The most extreme performers refuse to do this, waiting for their bodies to heal naturally instead. The genre gets its name from what is seen as its most impressive feat: coughing up blood in the middle of a performance.

History

Blood wailing was originally developed by hunters in Erek, probably by Orcs between 3075 and 3100 AK. It has since spread through the Satyr Kingdoms, though it has even greater popularity among the Hobgoblin Clans and in the city-state of Nekrosa . This form of music is controversial in Elf-controlled areas of Laivra due to it being seen as a mockery of nature's gift of healing magic.
