The Treatise of Greyot

A few short decades after the passing of the Great Storm, the continent of Ordia had yet to settle into what it is in current time. Lines had yet to be drawn for borders and crowns had yet to be claimed. In this turmoil, opportunism is bound to find a foothold and that is precisely what the dwarves of Bharak-dur aimed to do. The dwarven citadel was fortunate enough to remain mostly intact with a larger number of their population while the other edges of Ordia were splintered and struggling to right themselves.   Bharak-dur began to feel their way around their neighbors in search of favorable circumstances. Heading north into the Muiraces, the dwarves found themselves face to face with the fire giants of Ifdurough. As natural enemies, conflict ensued and the dwarves found themselves sorely outmatched by the fire giants. The dwarves limped back to Bharak-dur to lick their wounds and plot. Realizing that they may have bitten off more than they could chew, the dwarves redrew their plans. Their attentions turned southerly where Florestal had yet to unite.   Madeleine Veneziano, a prominent landowning noble, was the first to draw attention to the trouble that the dwarves were causing. This spurred her to action and she garnered the support of other lords and ladies who were threatened by the encroaching forces. They reached out northward to the tribes of the Bronzefields - the lands that would later become Gentrov - and to the Dhavish city states of Exsamos and Ifdurough. They quickly found that the other nations suffered the same menace, so an accord was promptly called to order.   On a small archipelago in the river between Bharak-dur, Dhaversland, and Gentrov, this meeting was assembled. Representatives from every corner of Ordia came to attend and this was the first instance where the leaders of the nations assembled after the Great Storm. The tribesmen of the Bronzefields served as the mediators for this accord since Bharak-dur had done them the least harm.   To say the least, relations were rocky between the people of Ordia. None present were used to the customs of the other peoples. The gentile manners of the Florestinians clashed with the roughness of the dwarves and the fire giants while the tribesmen had patience for neither. Over the course of the days of the accord, several leaders took the reins. Emperor Dhaver, Chieftain Taelor Gentrovich, Lady Madeleine Veneziano, and Archduke Urdol Sturich stepped forward and carried most of the discourse.   These leaders came to the conclusion that Ordia could not and would not survive a war in its fragile state. It was no secret that the continent was recovering from an apocalyptic event - one which many of the attendees had survived. Establishing this, the nations agreed they could not quarrel over matters such as borders and resources. Boundaries were drawn and land was allocated in the most advantageous way to each nation.   Needless to say, some voices held more sway than others. The rivers that formed when the continent of Ordia cracked served as natural guides to follow. Bharak-dur was confined between the two mountain ranges that are now known as the Muiraces and the Venezi reaches. With friction from King Dhaver and his Senatos Dhavosi, Archduke Urdol Sturich agreed that neither nation would claim the Muiraces, opting instead to share. He voluntarily elected to build a wall to prevent surpassing the border into Florestal's mountains. This wall was built upon over many centuries and came to be known as Saint Mordrem's Wall after the noble that built upon it.   For respect to the accord, the council dubbed the archipelago 'Greyot' as a metaphor for the middle ground they reached and henceforth dubbed the islands neutral territory between the nations. A tradition was born and from then on when nations felt the need to dispute, the parties in question would hold court on the isles of Greyot. This treatise was a turning point in Ordian history, finally establishing it as a unified continent.
