The Son's War

The Son's War is the strangest spurn of conflict in Ordia throughout its post-Storm history. It began with the supposed revival and insurrection of a prince, Taelor Berengar Gentrovich, thought dead who then claimed his throne to his mother's dismay. In retaliation, he re-united and rallied the Bulwark that Queen-Regent Estravir had disbanded. With this vengeful army at his back, he beheaded the Queen and decreed that he, the rightful ruler, would begin his reign as he should have years ago.   Little to Gentrovich XII's knowledge, the Queen had become great friends with the troubled Queen of Florestal, Carina de Marta Veneziano. With this shocking development, Queen Carina declared war on the country of Gentrov as soon as the news had reached her ears. The official declaration was on the 23rd of Zhan, 531 PGS.    A few factors had been building up this war. For example, Gentrov's Arcane Genocide (378-388 PGS) was thought to have to lead a significant slough of Cult (of The Dark Lady) activity back into the country of Florestal. Roughly a century later, Florestal took the initiative to purge the Cult from the nation. In reality, this only spread the Cult to other countries, and Gentrov took the brunt of the activity with over 600 deaths caused by the cult. Carina's general attitude toward the other countries and her realm drove many people in Gentrov to plead to Queen Estravir to parley with her. The Queen heard their pleas and did exactly that. They found that they had much in common and became close friends. After hearing Queen Carina's suggestions and criticism, she decided to strengthen her newfound "Crownsmen".   The blazing conflict led to many great battles and mass destruction. In the middle of the winter, a month after Carina had declared war, Harlan Moorebach unleashed what is now known as "Hell on Duln". It was a great siege that led to the fall of a few predominant cities in the Heartlands along the river Duln. Thousands were killed, innocents, soldiers, and all. Moorebach was confronted by the King in a now-famous exchange that led to Gentrovich XII executing the Brigadier in front of all of his men to make an example.   "We are not killers. We are honorable warriors who fight for the freedom of our people. There is no freedom to be found in burning and destroying them that aren't even remotely responsible."   Dozens of skirmishes and battles led to the destruction and desecration of the vast strip of land now known as the "Vhous-Ulfecher", made famous by the two generals that fought in place of their armies to spare the lives of many soldiers. General Ulfecher slew General Vhous, but later succumbed to his injuries in the 7th of Zhwatel, 532 PGS. They honor the legacy of these brave souls by naming the land after them. This, however, was before it became an uninhabitable wasteland. Where trees, hills, tall grasses, and fauna once lived was now riddled with scorched earth, mud, craters, bodies, and disease.   Another large event is known as "The Ambush at Hilldale" (Circa Adil, 536 PGS) led to the death of hundreds of Bulwark soldiers. It began as a Florestinian ambush that killed nearly everyone except a handful of elite soldiers who retaliated by using guerilla tactics to capture and take over two dozen Florestinian soldiers prisoner.   The Son's War still wages on, and the death toll climbs ever higher.

The Conflict

Battlefield

The countries of Gentrov and Florestal and their borders.

Conditions

A great swath of land now known as the Vhous-Ulfecher has been torn asunder, leaving wet marshes and swampland where wildlife once flourished. It scarred the earth with shelled-out craters in the mud, hills, and what were once forests. Many soldiers on both sides are often victim to swathes of diseases, and it is usually more likely to have one's life taken by poxes, tuberculosis, and Junder Fever.

The Engagement

Guerrilla tactics became less and less common as firearms made more and more of an impact on the battlefield, which inevitably led to trench warfare.
