Ogschuun: The Island of Progress

To the east beyond Torukain's Swords and Greatmund lay a large island shrouded by trees and, especially, mystery. The Church of Progress refers to this island as the Ogschuun. The Church's best-held secrets lay on this island. Ogschuun is the base of operations for the Church. It houses not only the Archbishop himself but also the Inquisition hand. Surprisingly, the land itself is no longer owned by the country of Gentrov, for it was gifted to the Church by Gentrovich IX. The small city of Dornich houses hundreds of Church members. It's also home to dozens of restaurants, stores, and laboratories. Most laboratories are not accessible to the lower-ranking people of the Church. The great Cathedral of Schugraff overlooks the island, and it houses the elite and most powerful and influential members of the Church including the Archbishop. Very few are ever even allowed close to the Cathedral. The Inquisition polices the island and makes sure that the populous is following its laws. It is rumored that far more than diplomatic take place at the Cathedral of Schugraff, but none can confirm. Not even the most elite members of the Church.

Purpose / Function

Ogschuun is the home of all three hands of the Church. Members of the Church of Progress (not including the common followers of the Templar) visit the island after requesting permission from a superior. On this island, all matters of the Church are attended to. Anything from the creation of new medicines to casting judgment upon those who have wronged inside or outside of the Church. Ogschuun is also seen as a place of respite and shelter for them that wish to escape persecution.

History

This island was once a pirate sanctuary and was frequented by the Dread-Pirate Odrim. On this island is where the legendary mage-killer Jonar Ogscho captured and beheaded the pirate in the name of his company, Zaubtat. In the years to come, fewer marauders came to the island after the news of the death of Odrim spread. From there, the mercenary company Zaubtat began to transform the pirate-town into a place of operations that would allow them to work more covertly instead of in company town with their competitors in Taelsburg. Over time, Zaubtat grew a following and many people attempted to make a pilgrimage to the island with a belief that Zaubtat was a force of good that would shape the world by ridding it of magic, thus beginning the true Church of Progress. Over the next one hundred years, the town was made into a small city (called Dornich) with the cathedral of Schugraff looming over it.
