Sky clever: black etch

Skycleaver, Brand of the Black Flame

Weapon Type: Long-Bladed Polearm
Total Length: 7 feet (3-foot curved blade, 4-foot shaft)
Class: Two-Handed Reach Weapon
Origin: Forged By Heath, On the edge of the Fiendlands at the request of a fellow Adventurer

Damage:1D10

Visual Description:

The shaft is formed from Runed Darksteel, engraved with pale runes that pulse with stormlight. It is wrapped in silver-bound coils for grip, cold to the touch yet unburning. The blade is forged of Sunscorched Bronze, weak as a metal but incredibly light, curved like a scythe’s fang and honed to cut through magic as easily as flesh.

Set just below the blade is a silver ring inset with a black flame sigil — an ever-burning arcane fire that defies all natural laws. The flame doesn't flicker or cast heat, but seems to drink in light, giving the polearm an eerie, devouring aura.

Weapon Traits & Effects:

  • "Voidfire Brand": The black flame sigil (a cracked silver ring wrapping black flames) imbues the blade with void-charged fire, allowing it to burn through magical protections and wards.
  • Barrier Severance: The edge can split elemental barriers, and deal extra damage to targets with active enchantments.
  • Ley Resonance: When near a leyline, Skycleaver hums with growing intensity. On a full charge, it can unleash a wave of anti-magic energy in a 15-foot line. (breaking magical barriers or protections like "immunity to X")
  • Phantom Reach: Due to enchantments on the blade’s curvature and counterweighting, Skycleaver can be wielded with unexpected precision — allowing thrusts and strikes around corners or through small gaps.
  • Black Flame Echo: On a critical hit, Skycleaver’s flame sigil mirrors the damage onto another enemy within 20 feet — as if the flame reached into their shadow.

Drawbacks:

  • The weapon’s connection to the void means it is disruptive to healing magic — any restorative spell cast on the wielder while holding Skycleaver heals only half as much.
  • It emits a low, melodic hum at all times — one that grows louder near arcane anomalies, making stealth difficult in magical regions, but seems to be quiet when near other "Voidfire brands".
