TURN UNDEAD RULES
Cleric Ability: Turn Undead
Prerequisite: Must be a Cleric. All Clerics gain this ability at Level 1.
Core Rule
Turn Attempt: A Cleric may attempt to Turn Undead once per round as an action.
Check: Roll 2d6.
Target: Any undead creatures within 20 ft. +10 ft. per Cleric Level.
Success
Base Success (Equal Level): If the undead creature’s level equals the Cleric’s level, the Turn succeeds on a roll of 7 or higher.
Modifiers by Level Difference:
For every level above the Cleric, the roll required increases by +2.
For every level below the Cleric, the roll required decreases by -2 (to a minimum of 2+).
Results of a Successful Turn
Turned Undead:
The creature immediately flees from the Cleric, attempting to leave the area by the shortest safe path.
If fleeing is impossible, the creature cowers, unwilling to approach or attack the Cleric for 2d6 rounds.
Number of Creatures Affected:
A Cleric may affect 1 undead creature per level with a single Turn attempt.
Targets are chosen randomly among all undead in range unless the DM allows focused intent.
Failure
If the roll does not meet or exceed the required value, the Turn attempt fails.
The Cleric may not attempt to Turn again until the next round.
Table: Required Roll by Level Difference
| Undead Level vs Cleric Level | Roll Required (2d6) |
|---|---|
| -3 or lower (3 levels below) | 3 |
| -2 (2 levels below) | 5 |
| -1 (1 level below) | 5 |
| Equal | 7 |
| +1 (1 level higher) | 9 |
| +2 (2 levels higher) | 11 |
| +3 (3 levels higher) | 13+ (impossible on 2d6) |
(Note: 2 is always an automatic fail, 12 is always an automatic success unless impossible by math.)
