MEGA SITE WONDERING RULES
Mega-Site Rules
Trigger Condition
When players are wandering, they roll a d6.
On a roll of 1 or 2, they encounter creatures (use creature encounter tables).
On a roll of 3 or 4, they encounter a Wondering Location (normal d100 biome chart).
On a roll of 3, if the party is 10 or more miles away from a major town or city, the DM may instead roll on the Mega-Site Table for the current biome.
On a roll of 5 or 6, nothing happens.
Restrictions
Mega-Sites are extremely rare. The DM should only allow these rolls if the players are far into the wilderness.
A Mega-Site should never appear within 10 miles of a major settlement, as these ruins would already be known.
Once discovered, a Mega-Site is added permanently to the campaign map and may be revisited.
Rolling Procedure
Player rolls a d6 while wandering.
1 or 2 = Creature encounter
3 = Location (check for Mega-Site if eligible)
4 = Location (normal d100 biome chart only)
5 or 6 = Nothing happens
If a 3 is rolled, the DM checks distance from the nearest major town or city.
If less than 10 miles, roll on the normal Wondering Location Table for the biome.
If 10 miles or more, roll a d20 Mega-Site Table for the current biome.
Once a Mega-Site is discovered:
Place it on the map.
Grant 1 XP to each character for marking it.
The DM describes its appearance and environment.
The DM determines dangers, secrets, or factions within it.
Frequency
A party will only roll for a Mega-Site on a 3 result, and only when far enough from civilization.
This keeps them rare but memorable, ensuring each Mega-Site feels like a significant event.
