MANA AND CASTING RULES
MANA SYSTEM (CORE RULE)
Definition:
Mana represents the energy or exertion used to activate a skill or spell. It is not mystical by default-it is the conversion of strength, focus, or willpower into direct power. Every class uses mana differently depending on their core method of ability use.
1. SOURCE OF MANA
Each class draws its Mana from specific core stats:
| Class Type | Mana Source | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Fighter / Physical | Strength or Constitution | Physical effort and endurance form their pool. |
| Cleric / Spiritual | Wisdom or Charisma | Faith, conviction, or divine will form their pool. |
| Mage / Arcane | Intelligence or Wisdom | Study, precision, or mental control form their pool. |
At character creation, the player chooses one of the listed stats as their personal Mana Source.
2. MANA POOL
A character’s Mana Pool equals half of their chosen Mana Source stat (rounded down).
Example:
If a Fighter has Strength 18, their Mana Pool is 9 Mana Points.
3. MANA USAGE
Each spell or skill costs Mana Points equal to 1 point per level of skill or spell.
When casting or using a skill, subtract that number from your Mana Pool.
4. CASTING CHECKS
all spell and skill casts are resolved by rolling against your Mana Source stat.
Roll a d20.
If the result is equal to or lower than your Mana Source stat, the spell or skill succeeds.
If the roll is higher, the spell fails and the Mana is spent.
This keeps spell success entirely based on the character’s own ability.
5. MANA DEPLETION AND OVEREXERTION
If your Mana Pool reaches 0, you may attempt to force a skill or spell by drawing on your physical or mental reserves:
Roll against your Mana Source stat.
If you succeed, the skill works, but you take 1d4 damage per Mana Point attempted.
If you fail, the skill fizzles and you take 2d4 damage per Mana Point attempted.
This is called Overexertion Casting.
6. RECOVERING MANA
Short Rest (1 Hour): Recover 25% of your maximum Mana (rounded up).
Full Rest (6+ Hours): Recover all Mana.
Items: Certain potions, ley crystals, or relics may restore or boost Mana temporarily.
Artifacts / Glyphs: Some ancient tools allow recovery from alternative sources (Ley Pools, Blood Mana, etc.).
7. INTERACTION WITH SPELL SLOTS
The level of the spell or skill reduces that many spell slots from your total daily amount.
When all spell slots are used, no new spells of that level can be prepared until a Full Rest.
These spell slots do not lower Mana as they are "daily" uses. They spend as if free mana
