In the lowlands, life revolves around community and cooperation. The fertile lands and Pieras river provide a stable foundation for agriculture and trade. Festivals and market days are central to social life, bringing together farmers, fishermen, merchants, and artisans to celebrate and trade. The lowlanders pride themselves on their craftsmanship and produce. Storytelling, music, and dance are common traditions, well in line with their vibrant spirits. Family ties are strong, with respect for elders who preserve and pass down the community’s history and traditions.
The mountain pass fosters a culture of resilience, shaped by the harsh environment. Residents often face cold, arid climates and the threat of monsters, leading to a culture that values independence and practical skills. Adventuring is a way of life here, serving as both a livelihood and a rite of passage. Adventurer’s guilds are social hubs where tales of daring exploits are shared, fostering camaraderie and respect.

Self-sufficiency is highly valued, with a sense of identity rooted in their ability to thrive in challenging environments. Communal gatherings for sharing food, stories, and songs are common, strengthening community bonds. Highlanders see themselves as protectors of their land and traditions.

History

Tehnblade, originally known as Westwatch, was one of the founding dukedoms of Bheria alongside Northwalk. In its early years, the western pass was impassable, and the region faced constant threats from monsters. The people of Westwatch were resilient, always defending their land from these dangers. As Bheria expanded, some of Westwatch’s population ventured into the mountain pass, seeking a more rugged life away from the kingdom's civilities. These groups, known as defectors, were presumed lost to the wilderness.
Contrary to expectations, these defectors not only survived but thrived in the harsh conditions of the pass. Small groups of fifteen grew to thirty, then ninety, and eventually hundreds. Over four generations, they adapted to their new environment, becoming a distinct people. Westwatch itself grew, integrating the defectors and using their foothold to build infrastructure within the pass. The duchy developed a rudimentary military force to manage the area, eventually pushing towards the western exit. This exploration led to the discovery of the lands westward, sparking a race to Vollis.
Despite its growth, Westwatch remained disunited. The people saw themselves as three separate entities: lowlanders, highlanders, and defectors. This disunity persisted even during the wars between Bheria and Formir. During this turbulent time, a warrior named Darius Blackthorn emerged as the first 'Blade'. Blades were unparalleled masters of their chosen weapons, and Darius saw an opportunity to unify his fractured homeland.
Darius challenged the strongest warriors from the lowlanders, highlanders, and defectors. He declared that if he could defeat all three, they would unify under a single identity, renaming the region Tehnblade. True to his word, Darius triumphed over his opponents and established a new order. He selected nine other weapon masters to form the Ten Divisions, each responsible for training forces in their respective weapon disciplines. These divisions provided crucial support to Bheria during its conflicts with Formir.
Tragically, the Ten Divisions were wiped out during the war with Formir, and Darius fell in battle. This marked the end of the Blades in Tehnblade’s history, and the region's people once again fell into disunity. However, the legacy of the Blades persisted through generational stories, with many secretly hoping for their return.
Centuries later, Alexander Tehnblade proclaimed himself the 'Blade of Swords', invoking the ancient title and sparking rumors of a resurgence of the Ten Divisions. While there is no concrete evidence of him reforming the divisions, the people of Tehnblade hold onto the hope that under Alexander’s leadership, their duchy will rise to new heights, united and strong once more.

Agriculture & Industry

Agriculture

Tehnblade's fertile lowlands are the backbone of its agricultural output. The rich soil and favorable climate allow for the cultivation of various crops, making agriculture a central part of the duchy’s economy.

Fruit Orchards
Apples and pears are common in the lowland orchards, contributing to both the local diet and trade goods.
One of Tehnblade's specialties is Lowland Peaches, which grow near rivers and creeks. These peaches are tough to chew but excellent for making alcohol and juice. They are prized for their rich flavor and nutritional value, used in traditional dishes, and exported at high prices.

Industry

Tehnblade's industry centers around the strategic control of the western pass and its natural resources, supporting itself through tolls, adventuring activities, and mining operations.

Agricultural products from the lowlands and mineral wealth from the highlands are traded for goods and services not readily available within the duchy, including luxury items, certain foodstuffs, and specialized equipment.
