Yet, I recognize the heavy burden they bear—living in constant vigilance and sacrifice. Their resilience commands respect, even as some may lament the harsh realities of their duty."

History

The Rise of Bheria and Appointment of the Dukedom (23 AAE)

Founding of Bheria

In 23 AAE, the ancient land of Bheria unified under the charismatic leadership of Victor Nightland, who proclaimed himself the first king. Known for his strength and charm, Victor was instrumental in consolidating various factions and establishing a new era of order and prosperity.

Lerum Greyfall

Among those who supported Victor was Lerum Greyfall, a prominent figure in the town of Greyfall. Although not the head of the Greyfall family at the time, Lerum’s influence and strategic location were crucial in gaining support from the region.

Elevation to Dukedom

Recognizing Lerum’s loyalty and the town’s strategic importance, King Victor Nightland appointed Greyfall as a dukedom, with Lerum as its first Duke. This marked the beginning of Greyfall’s ascent from a small town to a significant power within Bheria.

The Golden Boom and Discovery of Blue Agate

Western Trade Expansion

During the early years of Bheria’s expansion, the Western Kingdom began to open trade routes with neighboring regions. This period of economic growth brought prosperity to many areas of Bheria.

Discovery of Blue Agate

Beneath the mountains of Greyfall, miners uncovered rich veins of Blue Agate, a common and unwanted gemstone. This discovery however was very prized by foreigners and the Greyfall duekdom generated a great deal of profits for the Kingdom.

Economic Prosperity

The influx of wealth from Blue Agate trade transformed Greyfall from a primarily agricultural and mining region into a thriving economic hub. The newfound riches funded infrastructure improvements, including the construction of new villages, towns, and bolstering of the roads, further solidifying Greyfall’s importance in Bheria.

The Southern Collapse and War on Monsters (1198 - 1226 AAE)

Southern Cataclysm

In 1198 AAE, a catastrophic event led to the collapse of the southern kingdom. The once-thriving region was overrun by monstrous forces, spreading chaos and destruction.

Greyfall’s Response

As the southern threat grew, Greyfall emerged as the primary defense against the encroaching monsters. Under the leadership of Duke Valen Greyfall, the dukedom shifted its focus from economic prosperity to military readiness.

War Command Center

Greyfall became the command center for the war effort, coordinating defensive strategies and mobilizing troops from all four remaining kingdoms. The Southern Wall was constructed during this period, creating a formidable barrier against the monstrous incursions.

Last Line of Defense

Greyfall’s fortifications and strategic location made it the last line of defense during the height of the war. The region’s transformation into a military powerhouse solidified its reputation as Bheria’s vanguard, earning respect and admiration across the kingdom.

The New Pledge of the Greyfalls (1638 AAE)

Renewal of Loyalty

In 1638 AAE, Duke Alaric Greyfall made a significant public gesture by making a vow to King Terian, reaffirming the ancient bonds between Greyfall and the Bherian crown.

Sworn Knight

Beyond his duties as Duke, Alaric also vowed to be the King’s sworn knight, pledging his personal loyalty and body's might to the crown. This dual role marked a new chapter in their shared history.

Strengthened Alliance

The public pledge not only solidified Greyfall’s position within Bheria but also served as a reminder of the dukedom’s historical and ongoing commitment to the kingdom’s defense and prosperity. Alaric’s vow and unwavering loyalty further elevated Greyfall’s status, earning it levy leniency and the King's favor.
