Fiore Riders

When the town over has more information on the current situation in a city than the citizens do, there is a good reason. The Fiore Riders are a crew of messengers that work to deliver urgent information at a moment's notice. Well respected by the good of heart, and detested by those with less than kind intentions, the Fiore Riders are the bread and butter of keeping the central kingdom safe. While they work hard, their enemies are endless, and they are constantly riding unprotected. It's a dangerous career path, but their work must be done.

Structure

Grandmaster Courier

At the top of the Fiore Riders is the Grandmaster Courier, who oversees the entire organization from their headquarters in the central kingdom's capital. The Grandmaster is responsible for coordinating routes, assigning roles, managing resources, and maintaining the integrity and reputation of the Riders. They are well-informed about the kingdom’s politics and tensions, which allows them to decide which routes are prioritized and which messages require additional security measures. The Grandmaster Courier also liaises with local governments and other organizations, ensuring that the Riders are respected and trusted as neutral conveyors of information.

Regional Couriers

Below the Grandmaster Courier are the Regional Couriers, who oversee specific territories within the central kingdom. Each Regional Courier is responsible for managing the Rider stations in their region, which includes coordinating the delivery of messages and parcels, organizing groups of riders when needed, and ensuring that their riders are equipped and ready for the journey ahead. Regional Couriers are often seasoned Riders themselves, with deep knowledge of their region's geography, potential dangers, and local customs.

Rider Masters

Each town that hosts a Fiore Rider station is managed by a Rider Master. Rider Masters ensure that the Rider station is maintained, assign daily tasks to their riders, and manage any local concerns. They are also responsible for gathering intelligence on potential threats to their Riders, such as known bandits or unstable areas, and they adapt routes as needed. Rider Masters typically have experience as Riders, which allows them to understand the challenges their team faces and provide practical guidance.

Riders

The Riders form the backbone of the Fiore Riders organization. They are the ones who take on the risk of riding across the kingdom's roads, delivering messages, letters, and parcels to cities and towns. Riders are trained to ride light, carrying minimal baggage and no armor, relying on speed and evasion rather than defense. Due to the nature of their work, Riders are often lithe and agile, able to cover long distances without rest. In more dangerous areas or for highly sensitive deliveries, Riders may travel in small groups to ensure at least one makes it to the destination if the others fall. Riders are fiercely loyal to their organization and known for their courage, though they must constantly balance the risk of death against their duty.

Junior Couriers

Junior Couriers are Riders in training. They learn the routes, local landmarks, and safe houses while riding short distances between nearby towns or within safer areas. Junior Couriers assist Rider Masters in day-to-day station operations and are often given less critical deliveries. As they gain experience, they gradually take on longer and riskier routes until they are ready to be full-fledged Riders.

Informants and Scouts

Scattered across the kingdom are Informants and Scouts who provide valuable intelligence to the Fiore Riders. These individuals are not full-time members but are vital to the organization’s success. Informants may include locals, travelers, and merchants who supply information about bandit activity, road conditions, and potential dangers. Scouts, on the other hand, are more specialized; they move ahead of Riders to check routes, identifying risks and finding the safest passage for the Riders to deliver their messages. They blend seamlessly into the local populace and terrain, moving silently and reporting back without drawing attention.

Local Station Support

Each Rider station has a small team of Local Station Support staff who handle logistics, such as feeding and caring for the horses, maintaining the station, and preparing supplies for the Riders. They also serve as the first point of contact for the Riders returning from their routes, ensuring that messages and parcels are logged and accounted for. The support team is vital for keeping the organization running smoothly but rarely leaves the station, staying well-protected from the dangers Riders face.
