Eisenweld
Eisenweld is a village located in the Northwalk Region of Bheria, steeped in vibrant traditions and conserved cultures. Founded by the legendary warlord Eisean and his six companions, the village has begun grow into a thriving settlement under the careful stewardship of Leòmhann Speur-Marbhadh.
Demographics
Eisenweld, nestled in the heart of Northwalk, is a village rich in heritage. The population, numbering around 400, is predominantly human. They form the backbone of this settlement, dominant in farming, trade, and governance roles. The humans, making up about 75% of the populace, are complemented by two prominent half-elf families, who represent 15% of the village. These half-elves bridge the gap between the human and elven cultures, contributing to both intellectual and agricultural pursuits. Completing the demographic tapestry is a single, distinguished elven family, constituting 10% of the population, revered for their wisdom and historical contributions.
The sustenance of Eisenweld’s population is deeply intertwined with its unique marriage traditions and agricultural prosperity. Wheat, the village’s primary export, not only feeds the inhabitants but also ensures economic stability, encouraging families to settle and flourish. Marriage in Eisenweld transcends the union of individuals, symbolizing the merging of entire families. This tradition, crucial for maintaining population growth, dictates that once two people marry, their families become one, preventing any further intermarriage among close relatives. This societal expectation ensures that everyone, regardless of personal inclinations, marries.
The ritual of forging rings at a child's birth is a significant cultural cornerstone. Parents create two rings, one for their child and one for their future spouse. These rings are tied to the child's soul through a sacred ritual, where a symbolic item representing the child's name is burned during the final stages of forging. This tradition not only binds families but also weaves a rich cultural fabric that honors the village's heritage.
In Eisenweld, naming children after qualities their parents wish for them to emulate or overcome is a deep-seated tradition. This practice reinforces the village’s values and aspirations, embedding a sense of purpose and identity in each name. Moreover, the culture of hospitality and community in Eisenweld is profound. Villagers often resolve issues collectively, frequently helping each other without expecting payment, fostering a close-knit and supportive environment where the well-being of the community is paramount.
Government
Eisenweld, located within the Northwalk dukedom of Bheria, operates under a local administrative structure headed by a Low Lord. This position is currently held by Leòmhann Speur-marbhadh, a man renowned for his warmth and dedication to his people.
The governing structure of Northwalk, and by extension Eisenweld, is deeply rooted in principles of prosperity, security, and cultural preservation. These principles have been upheld by successive leaders, including the current Duke of Northwalk, Arden Northwalk, who ensures that these values guide local governance.
Eisenweld’s Low Lord is responsible for the administration and well-being of the village. This includes overseeing local trade, managing agricultural production, and ensuring the maintenance of infrastructure. Leòmhann Speur-marbhadh, with his background as a master merchant, excels in establishing trade routes and improving local amenities, such as roads and inns, to bolster economic growth.
The Low Lord’s duties also extend to maintaining law and order, supported by a small council of local elders and advisors who represent the interests of the villagers. This council aids in decision-making processes, ensuring that the needs of the community are met and that the village remains a safe and prosperous place for its inhabitants.
Leòmhann Speur-marbhadh’s leadership style is characterized by a strong sense of community and mutual support. He reinvests much of the tax revenue back into the village, funding public works and community projects. His governance has fostered a culture of hospitality and cooperation, where villagers often help one another without expectation of payment, strengthening the bonds within the community.
Overall, the government of Eisenweld, under the stewardship of Leòmhann Speur-marbhadh and within the framework of Northwalk’s duchy, exemplifies a commitment to communal prosperity, cultural heritage, and sustainable development.
Infrastructure
Before Leòmhann’s Improvements
Before the tenure of Leòmhann as the Low Lord, Eisenweld was a quaint, underdeveloped village. The infrastructure was bare at best, with narrow dirt roads that became muddy and impassable during the rainy seasons. The central plaza was an open area where villagers gathered for markets and communal activities, but it lacked proper paving and had little to no organization.
The village had few essential structures but few public amenities. While this included a small smithy, little else could attract merchants and new residents. The housing was traditional, with families living in simple wooden homes passed down through generations, often needing repair. While the foundations were stone and well-set, the rest of the structure fell through frequently.
After Leòmhann’s Improvements
When Leohann became the leader of Eisenweld, he started by reconstructing the Eisen Manor, moving it to a better location, and opening up the bottom floor to serve as a community center. The first floor provided amenities for communal use, such as a library, educational center, town meeting space for bad weather, and a place to socialize and relax.
Subsequently Eisenweld underwent significant infrastructural improvements. One of his primary initiatives was to enhance the village’s road network. The previously muddy and narrow main paths were widened and paved with cobblestones, necessitating the relocation of homes, including his home. Leòmhann’s efforts to remodel the village included persuading several families to build new homes. He initiated a program that provided materials and incentives for families to construct more durable and spacious houses, replacing the old, worn-out structures. These new homes were designed to be more resilient and aesthetically pleasing, contributing to an overall uplift in the village’s appearance and livability.
The central plaza was completely remodeled. Leòmhann oversaw the paving of the plaza with durable stone. This area became a hub for the village, organizing local markets, festivals, and gatherings of the people. The constructed platform in the plaza's center acted as a gathering place when messages needed to be delivered en masse.
Recognizing the importance of using Eisenweld's smithy to its fullest potential, the smithy, now equipped with better tools and a larger workspace, became vital to the local economy, supporting farming equipment and producing higher-quality goods that could be traded with the sparse merchants passing through.
Overall, Leòmhann’s tenure as Low Lord saw Eisenweld transform from a modest, struggling village into a more organized, prosperous, and attractive settlement. His vision and investments in infrastructure have laid a solid foundation for the village’s continued growth and prosperity.
History
Founding of Eisenweld
Eisean, not yet a man but not exactly a boy, bore a curse. His people saw him as a woman, and a woman he was not. Furious at the gods who reigned over his people’s lives, Eisean left to forge himself anew. He journeyed across Bheria before it was known as such and found kindred spirits—men, women, and others who defied what the world wanted them to be. Together, they aimed to challenge the gods and make their truth known.
Their first quest was to find a place to call home, a place to fight for beyond their anger. This task proved difficult for a group of seven. After much wandering and debate, they encountered an old hag who promised them a home if they proved worthy. With a cackle, she struck a deal with Eisean.
Gàirnealair, one of the six, guided them until they found a suitable spot—a hill nestled between two mountains. Briseadh na Talmhainn split the hill into a valley with a mighty strike of her great axe. Gàirnealair enriched the earth, summoning grasses and seedlings to provide wood for their homes. Sgiath-sgriosadair, not to be outdone, crafted tools, weapons, and structures from the leftover metal and stone.
Ceum-aotrom, noticing the shadows cast by the mountains, performed a grandiose feat of magic to guide light into the valley, ensuring both people and plants would flourish. Abhainn-sgàile established the graveyard, creating traditional burial practices. Speur-marbhadh, the youngest, brought settlers to their new home. Eisean, after watching his companions perform acts of near-divine might, faced a god who opposed their actions. With a crossbow bolt crafted by his allies, he struck the god, invoking thunder and driving the deity away. The hag returned, congratulating them and revealing herself as a trickster. She disappeared into smoke, leaving Eisenweld to grow under the watchful eyes of Eisean and his companions.
The Seven Families
The seven families of Eisenweld trace their lineage back to these legendary figures, each contributing to the village's rich history and culture. Though the Eisenweld family died out due to a series of misfortunes, the village thrives under the leadership of Leòmhann Speur-marbhadh, a descendant of one of The Six. He upholds the traditions and values that have shaped Eisenweld since its inception, ensuring that the legacy of Eisean and his companions endures.
