Procyon
(two examples of procyon)
The most populous species on Vondur behind humans, procyon settlements are commonly found near human cities, but seldom within their walls. This is due to the humans common view of them: sticky-fingered little thieves. And, while procyon are indeed opportunists, they aren't generally criminals, instead often being talented at trade and crafts.
A Prideful People
The procyon rarely live among humans, opting for a life removed from the human day-to-day activities and building their own small settlements near human towns and cities. Each clan has its own laws and customs, even their appearance varies depending on where they reside; procyon often adapt the clothing of human locals to their own use, although they have a disdain for bright colors and prefer more muted tones and very little patterning. The one thing all procyon clans have in common is that they are a merit-based society. Whoever is the most impressive gets to lead, no matter if it's a crafter, hunter, bard, or a successful merchant.
It's not unheard of for individual procyon to try to blend into human society, to varying degrees of success. They tend to be quick to anger, especially if they feel slighted, cheated, or taken advantage of. It is alsot advised not to haggle too much with a procyon, as they may take it that you don't believe their wares to be of quality and thus you could end up offending them. These people take great pride in what they do, no matter how simple others might deem their particular line of work. Hard work is good work, regardless if it's a caught fish or polished piece of expensive jewelry.
No matter how harsh or unpleasant a procyon might seem, once befriended they are generous and loyal, albeit often with a harsh sense of humor. It could take some getting used to having a procyon you call friend.
