Kingdom of Veyloria
Once a prosperous and unified realm, Veyloria now teeters on the brink of collapse following the death of its aging monarch, Veyloria Valenforth the 13th. With no clear heir and whispers of assassination, five factions have risen to claim the throne, plunging the kingdom into brutal civil war.
The Five Factions of Succession
1. House Valenforth (The True Heirs)
Claim: The strongest and most legitimate claim through King Veyloria’s granddaughter, Lady Elara Valenforth.
Strengths: Supported by noble houses loyal to the royal bloodline, the clergy, and the ancient royal guard.
Weaknesses: Seen as weak and inexperienced by the military elite.
Motive: Restore stability and preserve Veyloria’s traditions.
Symbol: A silver griffin on a blue field- the current flag of Veyloria
2. The Duskwood Pact (The Foreign Influencers)
Claim: An illegitimate yet politically powerful claim through Lord Tunis Duskwood, an exiled noble allied with Kovorost, a magical military surveillance state.
Strengths: Backed by foreign funding, mercenary forces, and Kovorost’s naval power.
Weaknesses: Seen as traitors and puppets of foreign interests.
Motive: Overthrow the monarchy and establish a republic in Veyloria.
Symbol: A burning crown on a black field
3. The Brotherhood of Service (The Military Elite - Allied Faction 1)
Claim: No royal blood, but led by General Grigor Poundiron, Veyloria’s most decorated war leader.
Strengths: Controls the majority of the standing army and fortresses.
Weaknesses: Lacks noble support and political legitimacy.
Motive: Install a military dictatorship to "protect Veyloria from itself."
Allies: The Consortium of Collected Interest.
Symbol: An open black gauntlet on a red field
4. The Consortium of Collected Interest (The Wealthy Merchant Guild - Allied Faction 2)
Claim: None, but seeks to install a puppet ruler while controlling Veyloria’s economy from the shadows.
Strengths: Vast wealth, control over trade routes, and influence in urban centers.
Weaknesses: No military strength and viewed as opportunists.
Motive: Secure total economic dominance over the kingdom.
Allies: The Brotherhood of Service.
Symbol: A golden flame on a green field
5. The Covenant of a New Era (The Longshot Claim)
Claim: A distant and ancient royal bloodline, traced through the enigmatic sorceress Lady Prisara Crowsong.
Strengths: Wields powerful arcane abilities and commands a fanatical, cult-like following.
Weaknesses: Viewed as heretics and outcasts.
Motive: Usher in a new era of arcane rule, reshaping Veyloria through forgotten magic.
Symbol: A single blue eye with white lightning cutting through it on an orange field
The Sixth Wildcard Faction
6. The Broken Tide (The Wildcard Rebellion)
Claim: None. They fight not for the throne, but for vengeance and anarchy.
Leader: Captain Sable "The Drowned Queen", a former naval admiral betrayed and exiled by King Veyloria, who turned to piracy.
Strengths: Commands a vast fleet of pirate vessels, controls the western coast and riverways, and uses ruthless naval tactics.
Weaknesses: Hated by all other factions and lacks political allies.
Motive: Dismantle the monarchy and drown Veyloria in chaos as retribution for Sable’s betrayal.
Secret Goal: To retrieve The Abyssal Crown, an ancient artifact buried within the royal crypts, rumored to grant dominion over the seas and awaken forgotten leviathans.
Symbol: A crimson sea serpent wrapped around the figure of a crowned man on a violet field
Hidden Betrayals
The Brotherhood of Service’s Secret Plan
General Poundiron respects the Consortium’s financial backing but sees them as parasites who profit from war while others bleed. His plan is simple: once House Valenforth falls, he will seize the Consortium’s treasuries, execute their leaders, and declare martial law.
- Hidden Asset: The Brotherhood has secretly recruited disillusioned Duskwood Pact mercenaries to betray the Consortium during the final assault.
The Consortium of Collected Interest’s Secret Plan
The Consortium views General Ironsoul as a blunt instrument—useful for crushing the nobility but too dangerous to leave in power. Once the Brotherhood weakens House Valenforth and spreads itself thin, the Consortium will bribe key Brotherhood officers to turn against Ironsoul and assassinate him.
- Hidden Asset: The Consortium has secretly supplied the Covenant of a New Era with gold and ancient relics to unleash chaos in the Brotherhood’s rear lines at the opportune moment.
A Contentious Alliance: Captain Sable & Lady Prisara
The Abyssal Crown
A cursed relic hidden deep within the royal crypts, The Abyssal Crown is said to grant dominion over the seas and awaken ancient leviathans. Forged in the Age of Titans, it was sealed away by Veyloria’s first king to prevent its destructive power from falling into mortal hands.
A Blood-Soaked History
Before her exile, Sable—then known as Admiral Sabryn Velora—commanded Veyloria’s navy with ruthless discipline. One of her officers, Captain Roshari Crowsong, attempted a mutiny, believing her obsession with victory would lead the fleet to ruin.
- Sable personally executed Roshari by chaining him to a mast and drowning him, making an example of him before the crew.
- What she did not know at the time was that Roshari was the younger brother of Lady Prisara Crowsong.
A Fragile Partnership
When Sable returned as the pirate queen of the Broken Tide, Prisara saw an opportunity to manipulate her rage to unleash the Abyssal Crown’s power and bring about the kingdom’s destruction.
- However, Prisara’s hatred for Sable burns beneath her cold, sorcerous facade. She withholds knowledge of the Crown’s magic, planning to betray Sable once the artifact is in her grasp.
- Meanwhile, Sable suspects Prisara’s grudge but believes she can outmaneuver the sorceress long enough to claim the Crown.
The Hidden Twist
- Unknown to Sable: The Abyssal Crown requires a blood sacrifice from a royal heir to fully awaken.
- Unknown to Prisara: Sable already knows this—and plans to use Lady Elara Valenforth as the final offering.
The Landscape of Veyloria
Veyloria is a vast and diverse kingdom, its lands ranging from sprawling cities to desolate ruins. Major regions and their current holders include:
- Valenfort (The Capital): The seat of royal power, still held by House Valenforth, though under siege from the Brotherhood of Service and the Consortium of Collected Interest.
- The Eastern Coast: Controlled by the Duskwood Pact, fortified by Kovorost's navy.
- Ironspire Hold: The largest military fortress in Veyloria, controlled by the Brotherhood of Service.
- The Grand Exchange: A major trading hub now dominated by the Consortium of Collected Interest.
- The Blackwood Depths: The home of the Covenant of a New Era, hidden within shadowed ruins and enchanted forests.
- The Western Seaboard and Riverways: Under the dominion of the Broken Tide, where Captain Sable's pirates raid indiscriminately.
The Current State of the Civil-War
Factions Gaining Traction:
- The Brotherhood of Service: Their siege of Valenfort is grinding down the capital’s defenses, and their military control over Veyloria’s fortresses gives them an advantage in direct engagements.
- The Duskwood Pact: With Kovorost's unwavering support, they have solidified their power along the eastern coast and are preparing to push inland.
Factions Losing Ground:
- House Valenforth: Trapped within the capital, running low on supplies, and struggling to maintain alliances.
- The Consortium of Collected Interest: As the Brotherhood of Service grows more aggressive, the merchants are struggling to maintain control over their military allies and protect their own interests.
Factions Growing Desperate:
- The Covenant of a New Era: Prisara Crowsong’s forces remain in hiding, unable to make significant moves while waiting for the other factions to weaken.
- The Broken Tide: Captain Sable’s forces are stretched thin, their raiding tactics delaying their enemies but failing to provide lasting control. Her obsession with the Abyssal Crown is also dividing her leadership.
The kingdom remains locked in a brutal struggle, with alliances shifting and betrayals imminent. The question remains—who will rise victorious, and who will be swallowed by the chaos?
