Araneidae

(a rarely encountered araneidae)

Native to the dark places of Vondur, whether that be deep forests, lost caverns, or the ruins of ancient empires, the araneidae evolved from simple spiders. It's whispered that they evolved as a response to the incursions of humans. They have the upper body of a slender humanoid and the lower torso of a spider. Much like their natural spider kin, the araneidae are capable crafters and natural climbers.

Woven Webs

Since their first discovery, the araneidae have learned of surface world customs and do their best to mirror them. Their people crave both time for solitude and community, doing what they can to find balance between the two. Araneidae prefer to eat alone, free from the onlooking eyes of their companions.

Most araneidae are solitary by nature and prefer living on their own, whether on the fringes of the city or the depths of the wilderness. Most araneidae are seen with fear and disgust and have become accustomed to hostile meetings with strangers and travellers, developing a darker, more cynical world view. On the rare occasion, an araneidae will be met with hospitality and will live with other species in small villages serving as night travel guides, weavers, builders, and artists.

While still extremely uncommon to come across, the araneidae of Vondur have made their entrance to society and have no intent to retreat.

Araneidae Names

While there are male and female araneidae, to outsiders it would be difficult to tell due to their physical similarities. The araneidae have a tradition of only using unisex names, thus adding to the confusion for humans.
