Anselian Steel
An incredibly tough but light steel that was found in the mines near the town of Ansel. It is stronger than other common ores and is highly sought after, especially by the royal guard.
Properties
Material Characteristics
The ore is whitish grey colored and will be found inside rock. It is shiny naturally, and in it's refined form it is even shinier.
Physical & Chemical Properties
It is incredibly tough and can only be significantly damaged by other Anselian steel tools, weapons. Normal weapons will scratch it or leave marks, and the smallest dents. Anselian steel weapons and tools will leave significantly bigger scratches, cuts, dents, and holes
Geology & Geography
It is an ore found in the mines near the town of Ansel, there are no other places it is found naturally and is an in demand item. It is found 3400 feet below the surface.
Origin & Source
Anselian Ore yields anselian steel when properly smelted.
Life & Expiration
It will always remain as it is, you can make the sharpest anselian steel sword, leave it out in the elements for ten years and come back to it to be just as sharp, with no signs of rust, perhaps a few streaks from rain, but nothing a good polishing couldn't take care of.
History & Usage
History
It changed throughout the years as Anselian smiths figured out how to forge with it, making the strongest tools, most durable armor, and sharpest waepons.
Discovery
It was first discovered in 680 AD and used by Maverick Smith to forge a sword which is passed on through his family. The sword is currently in the possesion of Axel Smith
Everyday use
It is used to make tools, weapon, and armor in Ansel. Is also sold to people outside of Ansel, but only in tool, weapon, or armor form. They keep the ore and ingots to themselves.
Cultural Significance and Usage
It is used to remeber the founders of the community. Johnathan Ansel, the original founder, and the other founding families such as the Smiths, Oaks, and the Trelaws.
Industrial Use
It is not compatible with other metals and cannot be made into an alloy. It is used in the creation of weapons, tools, and armors, as well as some other itmes around town, such as axles for carts, and gears for other basic machinery.
Refinement
The ore needs to be smelted at 3,000 degrees farenheit for a while to gain the usable form of it.
Manufacturing & Products
Turned into tools such as shovels, hoes, and rakes.
Weapons such as swords, axes, spears, and arrow-heads.
Armor such as chestplates, greaves, helmets, and gauntlets.
Byproducts & Sideproducts
No side or byproducts are made from it. Just molten rock when it is smelted, but that is destroyed in the smelting proccess so it is unobtainable.
Hazards
The refinement proccess is only dangerous in the fact that one is around 3,000 degree fires and molten metal and needs to know their way around the forge to be safe.
Environmental Impact
Has no environmental impact other than the smoke produced from the smelting proccess when the fires are being started.
Reusability & Recycling
Weapons, tools, and armor, along with other miscellaneous items made from it can eventually be smelted down into Anselian steel but much less is produced than is used.
