Ring of Death

A well-known amphitheater south of Sunje, owned by Duke Hanzo to host gladiator fights and serve as his home. Both Kinjakou and Zula stay here for several years and are "champions" of the fights.

Purpose / Function

Doubling as a theater for gladiator fighting and Hanzo's home, it has two parts to it. The main, and public, part is the theater itself where the fights are hosted. The second is Hanzo's living space. Every fight is intended to lead to death and the contestants will be given a limited amount of time to kill the other. If they can not kill each other in that time, they will both be severely punished. Fights consist of two gladiators fighting each other, small groups of men in a free-for-all, and men fighting beasts.

Entries

Opposite of each other are two large gates into the central arena. One gladiator enters through one and the second through the other. Of the amphitheater there is one main entrance and one in Hanzo's also. The windows are sparse, and nonexistent in the cells of the gladiators.

Sensory & Appearance

Halls and rooms are lit by dragonfire. The torches in the lowest level of the amphitheater are spread out to keep the gladiators in dim light. Death and sickness is a constant stench to burn the insides of nostrils. The temperature is normally the same temperature as outside due to the lack of fully enclosed space. Hanzo's living space is kept warm by fireplaces and shut doors.

Denizens

Beneath the arena lives a couple dozen gladiators, and counting. Hanzo and multiple of his advisers, servants, and guards, live in the second part of the amphitheater. Rats and spiders make homes in the numerous crooks and crannies.

Valuables

Hidden in the living quarters are stashes of riches that Hanzo greedily guards. The living quarters are decorated with gold, skulls of fallen beasts, paintings, and several other pieces of notable art.

Architecture

An oval shaped building with a central area; the arena with seats surrounding it. It is built primarily of stone, with wooden and dirt floors. Below the arena was constructed a maze of rooms to hold the prisoners, gladiators, and beasts, connected to the first floor by trapdoors and stairs. In the spectator seating, the lowest section (podium) was reserved for Hanzo and royal guests. On the opposite side of the arena, still on the podium, was where distinguished guests and nobility sat. The other three galleries would seat people of other classes. The seats can hold 15,000 people. In the second part of the building is a more elegant structure where several personal living quarters where situated. There is also a large kitchen, dining room, meeting room, and living room.

History

Hanzo issued the payments himself for the amphitheater to be built. He destroyed the castle that stood and in its place put the Ring of Death. The construction process began in 164 and finished in 170.
