Gift of the Storm God

Once Storm Kin reach 15 years of age, they are sent to the very center of the island and accept the gift from the storm god. They are struck by the storm and are given their markings, giving them the power of dead thunder.
The markings glow bright blue on the skin and display the type of power gifted to them. The more markings they have, the more power they possess, as well as detailing what powers they have.
The significance of this ritual is that the tribe member with the most markings on their body is chosen to rule the tribe. If a member is given more markings than the current tribe leader, they will be replaced by the 15-year-old who was just given the gift.

History

The tribe has always been immune to the constant storm that raged over the island as whenever lightning struck a member, they were left unharmed. They had also noticed that whenever any creature living in the lake was always struck by lightning when they were in the center, killing it in the process and leaving bright blue markings all over them. Seeing as they were immune to the effects of the lightning, and they found a correlation to the center of the lake always striking, the leader at the time took it upon himself to sail out to the center and was the first to receive the gift. No member of the tribe to this day has had more markings than him, presumably as he was the first both brave enough and intelligent enough to realize the unique properties of the lake.

Execution

Once they reach 15 years of age, the member is sent out on a single boat to the center of the lake. Once there, the lightning will strike them, arching across their body and leaving the markings where it struck. Once the ritual is over and the lightning has stopped, that same tribesman will not be struck by it if they return.

Participants

All other members of the tribe observe the ritual from the side of the lake. The current leader waits in his own boat close to the center, getting the best view of the magnificent ritual.
