Personal history
Valerie grew up under the protection and care of her older sister, Marysa-Liene, separate from their parents in an orphanage. Having never been chosen by anyone for adoption due to their strange Kio'Nae heritage, Marysa eventually grew old enough to head out on her own, being a good 10 years older than Valerie. She worked hard for a small place to live and essentially adopted out Valerie from the orphanage while she was still around 8. Valerie grew to learn from Marysa's love for music and nature while doing her best to learn about the world around her.
Once Valerie was nearing adulthood, Marysa explained to her about their parents, coming to learn about their Minotaur father's abusive and dangerous nature as well as how their Kio'Nae mother, when she finally escaped, decided to leave the two at the orphanage far from their hometown to try and protect them. Both Valerie and Marysa long to find and see their mother, though with neither having the resources to magically track her, the lack of knowledge has them both in fear that the worst may have happened to her.
To try and give herself a purpose, Valerie took to gardening, eventually learning how to bake. She continued to expand her portfolio and learned how to make coffee and butterbeer, opening up a small coffeehouse/cafe soon after becoming an adult with the help of Marysa. She hired on Marysa to help her with customers and the ingredient garden behind the building, as well as general protection of the place while she takes care of the brewing, cooking and baking, as well as serving the main counter. Valerie lives in a small apartment above the small cafe, while Marysa lives with her Adventurer husband in a small home plenty close by, with Marysa still ever-so protective of her little sister.
