Memory Orb

The Memory Orb is a fun gift for anyone to receive. It allows the owner to bond with it. Once bound, the Orb will accept a set amount of memories from the owner. The size, quality, and material of the Memory Orb determines the amount of memory it can store. The quality and material of the crystal also affect how many senses the orb can store.   When it comes to Memory Orbs, quality is judged on how cloudy the crystal is. The clearer the crystal the Orb is made out of; the clearer the memories stored within will be. Generally, Memory Orbs need to be as close to transparent as possible, although a completely transparent Memory Orb is extremely rare.   The size of Memory Orb allows the crystal structure of the Memory Orb to hold more energy. This greater capacity for energy allows the Orb to store a longer time period of memory. It should be noted that a Memory Orb about the size of a Grapefruit can store the entire lifespan of the majority of species on Vitcoona.   Finally, the material of a Memory Orb greatly affects how difficult it is to work with. Gemstones that lend themselves toward being used as magical conduits are generally the more glassy gemstones. For Memory Orbs, gemstones like Topaz or Idtooma are ideal. In order to store more senses, the Memory Orb will need to be shaped in such a way that it has multiple chambers within it. These Orbs generally are not shaped like sphere, but rather take on different geometric constructions to better suite storing multiple senses from the bound owner. Additional layers to the Orb is another way to allow it to store multiple senses.   Memory Orbs that project a copy of the owner for someone to interact with are called Projection Stones. These types of Memory Orbs allow the recipient to have access to a somewhat interactive version of the person bound to the Projection Stone. Such projections can be used to dispense information in an interactive way. The better the Projection Stone, the more autonomous the projection becomes.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Memory Orbs work by absorbing Mana from their bound owner. The absorbed Mana allows for the Orb to have empty energy available inside it that the owner can fill with memories. Usually, Orbs are constructed with enough complexity that they can store both visible and audible memory within them. Just like with Mana Crystals, Memory Orbs that are more compatible with receiving Mana will be easier to store memory within.

Manufacturing process

After a gem has been selected to be cut into a Memory Orb, the lapidary will shape the Memory Orb into spheres or layered constructions. Spherical Orbs are generally really good at storing the visible and audible memories of the owner, while geometric Orbs are generally less capable of storing extremely high quality memories. Instead, geometric Orbs are good at storing the full spectrum of memories so long as they have the appropriate layers. Lapidaries will carefully fashion a gem so that it either takes the shape of a sphere or a geometric layered structure. Either result will produce an effective Memory Orb.
Item type
Storage
Rarity
These are uncommon magical items. While there's plenty of them floating around in some cultures, in other cultures they are a rarity.
Raw materials & Components
Generally, these Orbs are made out of Topaz, but other gems with the ability to come out transparent also make good memory orbs. Opaque or cloudy gems can still be used to store memory, but they will only store a small amount of memory that will be fuzzy and vague at best.
