General Description
The Banshees are Undead creatures that arise from the essence of fallen females. Sometimes, the body of dead women (regardless of species) will release a cloud of Black Mana that will coalesce into a Banshee. These creatures are universally despised by the Living due to their Undead nature. As an apparition, they are capable of phasing through walls that are not augmented with arcane defenses, and Banshees are known for bypassing armor and shields to attack unprepared warriors in the most damaging of ways.
Spawning Conditions
Banshees are created when Black Mana infects a dead woman. The specific circumstances that spawn Banshees instead of Zombies or Skeletal Warriors are not known, but the standing theory is that a woman who knew marriage in life will be much more likely to spawn a Banshee from her corpse than a woman who has unmarried. This effect is magnified by the deceased also being a mother. Black Mana continues to manifest its ability to twist and defile everything sacred.
Magical Properties
Banshees retain the nearly universal weakness of all Undead towards Light and Fire magic. They are strengthened by Dark magic (not to be confused with Black Magic). Banshees are powerful casters in their own right. They can use a variety of psychic abilities to project their screams with enough potency to damage warriors, magi, and even structures. Older Banshees can even focus their screams onto a point and create a sonic detonation.
Physical Properties
A Banshees physical attacks harm the soul and not the body. Individuals who take excessive damage from a Banshee will find themselves collapsing into a coma with little to no physical damage to indicate why they are in such a sorry state. The sensation of a Banshee strike is most frequently described as being struck by the ice of the Frozen West upon your bare flesh. These blows sear the soul, and can leave even the most stoic warrior quaking in pain and fear.
Notes:
Banshees when destroyed will burst apart violently. These death blasts are not particularly lethal, but they can throw around individuals not braced for them.
Banshees are not dangerous alone in most cases. Their screams are capable of generating physical force, but their more lethal attacks are their physical strikes.
Banshees will not attack the man they were married to in life, nor will they attack their children. Given that Undead are merely incomplete copies of the creature they are using to exist, this is likely an instinctive restriction holding on from when the woman was alive. This restriction is not to be misconstrued as the Banshee recognizing family. They will try to harm husbands and children, but their leftover maternal instincts will thwart such efforts.
