Bladefall

The ancient capital of Lothen and the black diamond of the south. The city of Bladefall has known glory and turmoil many a time. Her power peaked during the Era of the Conqueror under the reign of Norionor Whiteshield who conquered a great part of Central Vitallia. The city is known for its knights and the royal army. The metropolis is huge and divided into districts. Black and silver colors dominate most of the city’s buildings, which are also decorated with statues and monuments. Stone-paved streets spread throughout the city, unveiling well-lit neighborhoods of a place that never sleeps.

Demographics

The majority of the people that live in Bladefall consist of Humans. However, it is known that a small but powerful minority are vampires, who also occupy positions of power.

Government

The city is run by the king himself who is consulted by Akreyn Thiaspis, an oath-bound wizard who is uniquely privileged to consult the active king of Lothen.

Defences

  • The Wall of Swords: One of mankind’s most impressive constructions is the huge wall that surrounds the city, decorated with thousands of blades embedded on its surface. The blades offer further protection against invaders, as the wall was built during the Era of the Conqueror by an architect called Andurim Salis, who was famous for several other great constructions, such as the Tower of Swords. Norionor Whiteshield instructed Andurim to convert the tall wall of Bladefall into something more terrifying and effective, as he anticipated that his campaign would last for years, and with the greater part of Lothen’s army by his side, invaders from the west might find their way into Bladefall.
  • Evercastle: The central castle of the kingdom and the house of the Whiteshield royal family. Built of black stone, with engraved blades upon it, the impressive building contains four majestic towers and a giant steel door. In addition, a moat surrounds the castle.

History

The city of Bladefall was once a marshland where the first Humans gathered under the guidance of the Gods. Among them, a true leader emerged and turned the scattered tribes of warriors into knights by organizing them into armies to answer the call of the Gods and fight in the First Quest against Nedel.    After the Great War, once Lothen was established, the once-marshland became a large town known as "Lionmouth" where Humans evolved into craftsmen and able warriors. Bladefall soon became the kingdom's heart and a pole that drew Humanity to its core. With the assistance of sages and wizards, Lothenian leadership helped Bladefall evolve rapidly into an occupied zone that would later become the heart of the Human species in all of the Forklands.   Years later, when the influence of the vampires and other forces that had assisted in Lothen's growth became known, division hit Lothen as people started to dislike the idea of a king being driven by "dark forces", disregarding the complex origin history of the kingdom and the king's consultant. Powerful individuals who despised Bladefall's yoke and the effect of the Oath of the Lion began to organize riots against the king and the royal lineage.   Bladefall faced its biggest crises during the era of the Red Lion, a civil war that split Lothen's people into two sides, those against vampire assistance, and those who favored it. However, the usurpers never achieved to undermine the king's authority but the bloodied war in Lothen's interior marked the kingdom forever.   Bladefall's power peaked during the Era of the Conqueror, under the reign of Norionor Whiteshield, who sought to prepare the kingdom against the coming of Nedel. Despite Norionor's death, his influence assisted in the forming of Bladefall's power which ultimately made the difference in the Battle of the Four Daughters against Nedel's arrival to the east.

Architecture

Bladefall's architecture is considered masterful and grim. Dark and militaristic aesthetics characterizes it since some of the most profound buildings have been decorated with broken blades of dark and silver colors. The city's architecture resembles the warring tradition of the kingdom and reflects the influence of the vampire minorities that inhabit it. Its walls, towers, and castles are similar and share the grim atmosphere shaped by numerous architects who became influential in Lothen's history.

Geography

Bladefall is located on the banks of Fork river. It is a privileged position with access to strategic locations such as the Lion Mountains and the kingdoms of the Forklands.
