Ava-Dish, The Far City

Ava-Dish is one of the nine original Blessed Cities, each founded by one of the Holy Reclaimers. Unlike its siblings in their east, Ava-Dish never successfully civilized the lands it once claimed as its hinterlands. Even with the transition from city-state to nation, it has repeatedly failed to patrol its borders, much less push past them. Kivlin raiders from the desert and huge beasts from the savannah regularly make incursions into their territory.   In other words, Ava-Dish finds itself as the only true failure amongst the Blessed Cities, devoid of any sense of security. For over 400 years, the city has remained perpetually at the edge of civilization, never making marked gains toward permanent pacification of its surroundings.   Yet, for all its challenges, Ava-Dish has never been truly overshadowed by its siblings. Beneath the ever-present shadow of its wild surroundings, the city conceals a treasure trove of exotic goods unlike any other, brought about by years spent building relationships with far-flung Kivlin tribespeople. The markets of Ava-Dish brim with a kaleidoscope of colors, scents, and sounds, showcasing rare spices, unique textiles, and artifacts that draw merchants and adventurers from lands far and wide. These exotic treasures, often impossible to find elsewhere, have made the city a hub for trade and intrigue.   But the city’s crowning jewel, both its pride and its primary export, is the majestic Lutaro. These enormous, awe-inspiring beasts of burden roam the surrounding savannahs, their powerful forms a testament to the untamed spirit of the land. While these creatures might pose a threat to the unprepared, the daring folk of Ava-Dish have mastered the art of capturing and taming them. Once tamed, the Lutaro are sent east, serving as invaluable assets to empires and kingdoms, their unmatched strength and endurance reshaping entire economies.   The tales of Ava-Dish and its Lutaro are now whispered in hushed tones in taverns and marketplaces. To many, they are a symbol of the city’s indomitable spirit. For, while Ava-Dish may exist on the edge of wild chaos, it has turned its challenges into opportunities, proving that even in the face of adversity, true greatness can be achieved. It serves as a reminder that sometimes, the cities with the roughest edges hide the most valuable treasures within.
