Laareigh

A populous and busy city, Laareigh is known for its high crime rate and low life quality. It has its cons and pros. There are around one hundred and thirty city districts, each has a purpose.

Demographics

Mainly humans compared to Viridios, there are sentient androids which are unique to Eastsummer and make up much of the workforce.

Government

The settlement is run by a presidential republican democracy. The president is higher than the First Chamber, the Second Chamber, then the Third Chamber. Every Chamber seat is elected by the lower chamber, exceptions being the president and the Third Chamber. The Third Chamber is elected by the public in a majority vote. All the Chamber members vote on the president, typically from the First Chamber. The government is responsible for the budgeting, managing the army, providing services to the public, and raising taxes. Things such as collecting taxes and repairing broken buildings are left to the city districts. The First Court also gives advice to the President and passes on requests from the lower chambers.

Defences

The city is defended by the Guard, an elite peacekeeping force. Laareigh's army is partly drafted and part volunteers. The Guard has access to bulletproof armor, automatic guns, and high-tech weapons. Even the lowest of soldiers can use chemical bombs which are non-destructive but releases a gas which knocks out people in a certain area. The army is strictly structured and hands out harsh punishments. Only at a certain level, aka foot soldier does the government start paying for your duty as many recruits die while on patrol. This is a risky but rewarding job especially for those who manage to climb to higher ranks. Various gun towers are placed in vital areas, they are used as surveillance and a place for those remaining on duty. Recruits are given three years of training. The army lives of a sufficiently maintained diet consisting of rations which can be quickly grown, jerky and biscuits. Nutrient drinks are also passed out. They can quickly carry up to eight months worth of food with them off-planet.

Industry & Trade

Computer science, research, building androids, growing meat from stem cells, growing green food, managing oxygen production There are hundreds of jobs taken by robots. Libraries and schools are staffed by androids. The reality is that there are fewer jobs available to people. Computer science and research always have valuable positions open. Meat factories look for those willing to grow meat from stem cells. Vegetables and fruit are important. You can work in the oxygen production factories. Going off the grid, you can be a hacker, a soldier, even a politician.

Infrastructure

At this point, there are more roads planned out. Highways follow this somewhat, the name originated from the fact that all highways are roads above ground with the ability to provide quick access to distant districts. Airports do the job quicker for very distant districts. Plumbing is a requirement, plumbers install them underneath streets and sidewalks, linking up houses to the sewer system. Electricity is vital in Laareigh. There are concrete sidewalks then there are floating sidewalks. Both do their job well. Hospitals provide medical attention to the sick and elderly. As the world is extremely polluted, there are oxygen generation factories and pipes that provide buildings with the necessary breathing air. Public transit is available. School is free through kindergarten to high school. Students have to pay for college and training schools. Libraries are accessible.

History

Several centuries into the apocalypse, Laareigh was a small farming city. Rudolph Simeon Isaiah Steele planned to make it the only city in the world. He succeeded in 665. Rudolph established the government in 669 under the Liberal Consitution and the Bill of Rights. It had several good and bad presidents.
