Under the Illusion of Freedom

General Summary

27 G.E.

The party works for the Fallen Hand, a mysterious organization that works outside of the law
Otto (callsign: Skink) runs a safehouse disguised as a rug shop in Klaska'in with his husband Crantius Elias; he receives a suspiciously late message from an operative
When he goes to investigate, the Fallen Hand sends two other operative, Cleo (callsign: Rabbit) and Calliope (callsign: Hummingbird), as backup
They were sent to check in on the operative and, if necessary, complete their retrieval mission
Cleo and Calliope arrive at the safehouse and stay the night
The Crantius' marriage is in shambles as sweet Elias struggles to find time with his husband as strange Hai keep crawling in the windows at all hours
In the morning, they go to a cafe and listen for the the codeword "boar gizzard" from the operative
An elven man comes in, announces the word in a very suspicious manner, and then leaves
They go the well (following the instructions in his speech) and finds a note with "Vix'ier" on it
On the way to the castle of Vix'ier, they see a drop in the number of guards, as well as a fully dressed guard with a child (~6ish) and a large sword
They find that General Wei Zeura is throwing a party and secure a way in through disguises and the rug shop (poor poor Elias deserves the world; we must protect him)
When they get into the party, they sneak into the keep and explore the rooms vis Cleo's spider familiar:

One room room has a dead elven man whos been dead (via stabbing) for around five days
Another room has the elven boy from before; he doesn't seem to be too distressed
The furthest room has a table with a circle of candles and a silver chalice
Another room, they find the heavily armored elven man with a large sword from before; he's writing a letter about having dealt with the "leak", but after he finishes the letter, he crushes the spider

They try to steal the chalice, and notice one of the candles has been snuffed
As they lift the chalice (invisibly) from the table, all of the candles go out; they run, but they appear to be trapped in the keep
The man with the big sword slashes through the paper screens and confronts them; Otto is still pretending to be a rug merchant, Calliope is disguised as a guard, and Cleo (with the chalice) is invisible
The man does something and his eyes start to glow; Calliope tries to brainwash him, but he stabs Cleo instead
They enter combat and subsequently kill the man; his last words are to his son, Yashiro (the boy from earlier)
The three flee into the night
