For all the violence and chaos that consumes the realm of giants, there are few locations that are calm. But they do exist in the form of the sanctuaries of ascension. The birthplace of golems. Colossal clay monoliths that sprout out of the ground and touch the clouds, acting as a safe pathway for the creatures of clay to descend and carry out their life missions.
You know, whenever I needed a moment of solace I would often go to the nearby sanctuary. Such a unique place, but one that always seemed to fill me with warmth and comfort. A holy structure with a mysterious feeling surrounding it. But not in an imposing or ominous way, more like the gods were watching over you.— Unknown
Birthplace:
From the mouths of golems and other ancient paleskins, the sanctuaries are the birthplace of golems. A direct tunnel from the heavens above to the moral plane below. With an exterior that can be seen from miles away. Sporting a spiral pattern protruding from the walls that travels all the way up the monolithic building.
Inside the place is simple. A single set of uneven stairs follows the same spiral pattern as the outside that leads all the way to the top. The walls are made of dry pale brown clay with no real decoration. Running down the centre of the sanctuary is a single stream of light, no matter the time of day. Through rain or sunshine, the light persists. With the beam touching a pedestal at the base of the structure. A base big enough for any giant or golem to stand on with room to spare.
Elders say that the purpose of the sanctuary is for the gods of giants to watch down on their creations. Observing if and when the giants may need divine intervention. When they believe they are required, the gods send down assistance in the form of golems. Manifesting on top of the pedestals and given life to act so they can complete their mission. Once the mission of a golem is complete, they return to the sanctuary and are returned to the gods.
No one is certain who or what created the sanctuaries. For they are structures that have always existed, and show no sign of erosion or degrading with the passage of time. But cartographers, astrologers and scholars in the mystic arts have all come to the conclusion that whatever they are, they are linked to magic. Whether that be from the gods themselves or the ley lines and waystones they perfectly align with.
