Within the vast landscape of the Forgotten Realm lies a number of unusual and interesting locations. From the seas of lost things to the mountain ranges made entirely of socks. But should you ever find yourself near a canyon, you will begin to feel a pull into a dark and dangerous place. Dotted around the realm are such places known as concept canyons. Where ideas, drafts and concepts go to perish.
Descending into Darkness:
More commonly found in mountainous terrain, these wide cracks drop down into the core of the planet. Going so far that not even light can reach the bottom. Despite their incredible size both from one edge to another as well as spanning for miles in either direction, those who do find them always describe the geographical location appearing out of nowhere. As if they accidentally stumbled upon one.
Walking up to the rim of the canyon, you will find a steep but traversable path to get down the canyon with ease if you choose to. The further you continue down the slopes, the walls begin to appear with inky images. Half drawn characters designed in scratchy line work, concepts of landscapes once painted with water and invention diagrams fading into the stone its embedded on. These images are stationary for the most part. But as you travel deeper down the canyon, hoping to reach the bottom, the two dimensional creations wake up. moving on their own accord.
For these are the lost and forgotten concepts of artists across the mortal plane. Ideas that were thrown away in favour of something more pleasing. These drawings have been lost to their creators and end up on the walls of the canyon. Trying to claw out of the walls and cling onto anyone that will take them to the surface so they can see the light of day once more. The deeper down the stone edge you go, the more alive these concepts will become. Some gaining voices and screeching out into the open air. Others gain enough strength and will power to partially peel away from the walls that cage them. All of them hoping, wishing and begging for a chance to escape.
The folks that find themselves in the Forgotten Realm have heard rumours of terrifying creatures that lurk into the deepest, darkest parts of the canyons. That there in fact an end point and that a single artist is searching every canyon possible to find her lost artwork.
