Personal history
With the birth of Hanz came the departure of his father unfortunately, not even his mother knew why he left. Hanz’s father did however leave his great axe behind for Hanz to use. The axe itself was quite large and heavy and most average men might not be able to wield it effectively, but Hanz growing up using it for just about every task he could in the forest became accustomed to the size and weight. After many years of use in the forest the axes’ original appearance was covered by dirt and mud but once was a quite stunning axe with gold filigree inlay in the handle and intricate carving of a wolf and serpent on the head. Fenri would tell Hanz about the strength and power that his father had in battle while wielding the axe but that it appears the power has left the axe for some reason, this did not bother Hanz because the axe would still chop wood just fine and never needed to be sharpened.
Even in Hanz’s youth it became apparent that there might be some truth to the legend with the giant's blood. Due to the stronger appearance of the legend in Hanz, Fenri decided that even at a young age Hanz would need to know how to defend himself. Training Hanz proved to be a difficult task, perhaps as a part of the legend or just Hanz’s natural temperament he would go into fits of rage when angered and it took him some time to learn how to wield his axe properly for a fight though in most cases he still relied on his rage to guide him through the fight. Through the years Hanz has mostly gained control over his rage.
Growing up Hanz had very little experience in the world outside of the forest, but on occasion his mother would have to go into the nearest town for some basic supplies and would bring Hanz along so he could learn about trading and how the world works outside of the forest. On one such occasion he happened to bump into a boy with the crest of house Syren on his clothing, he didn't seem to mind but was interested if Hanz or his mother had seen a female elf around. Hanz and his mother said they had not but there was one time when a female elf snuck into their house and started rummaging around, surely that could not have been the elf this boy was looking for. After they parted Hanz’s mother said that he was a noble and that nobles should not be trusted because all they want is power and money and they will do anything to get it.
When Hanz was 15 his mother came down with an illness that took her life leaving Hanz alone with only his ax to keep him company. After about a year Hanz took to calling his ax Lucy, and it became his first friend. Hanz and Lucy did everything together, chop down trees, hunt for food, and fight off bandits. Though after a few years Hanz did relocate his home closer to an elven village in the forest but kept his distance to not intrude on their way of life
