Clan Eyrie

Clan Eyrie: The Feathered Messengers

Overview

Nestled in the hills near Thornkeep, Clan Eyrie has developed into Rorestvia's premier network of messengers through their mastery of avian communication. With approximately 350 members, this clan breeds and trains specialized birds that connect the major settlements of Rorestvia, providing a vital communication network that predates modern governance.

Origins and History

The clan began with the Eyrie family, who were skilled falconers serving Thornkeep's defenses during the Era of Endless Battles. When Mara Eyrie discovered that her hunting birds could be trained to return to specific locations beyond their home roost, she began experimenting with message delivery. What started as a tactical advantage during conflicts evolved into an essential service during peacetime, with subsequent generations expanding both their bird species and territory coverage.

Capabilities and Services

Bird Network

Clan Eyrie's communication system centers around major aviaries in key Rorestvian settlements:
  • Thornkeep (headquarters)
  • Swanward
  • Claypost
  • Cliffshear
  • Chegeg
  • Each aviary maintains a population of birds trained to fly to the other locations. Messages must be transported between these fixed points, limiting service to established routes.

    Range and Reliability

  • Distance: Birds can reliably travel the full length of Lake Rorest (the 217 miles between Claypost and Swanward) in approximately a day.
  • Weather Factors: Heavy storms, thick fog, or harsh winter conditions can delay or prevent deliveries.
  • Predators: Natural predators occasionally intercept birds despite protective training.
