Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Apius is lean but muscular. His wingspan is far greater than needed, with ashy black feathers.
Body Features
Apius's flesh is blackened in most places, bar some streaks of a lighter colour.

Apius is rarely seen out of his armour, but when "resting" will wear very little, as he complains it makes him feel "smothered" to wear too much.

Personal history
Apius was amongst the first fire elementals in existence, and accepted a role of leadership as he realised he possessed greater strength than most of his kin. An explorer from the Material Plane found themselves in his presence, and when Apius helped them get home, spread word of this powerful and merciful creature.
Over time, he gained a small following in Atraria. An Emperor called on his help as Atraria fell under attack, and Apius felt a pang of pity for the mortals. He intervened, opening a Rift between the Plane of Fire and the Material Plane, and leading his army to the defence of Atraria against their Ushanarian invaders. When the threat was driven off, Apius returned to the Plane of Fire with the praise of the Atrarian people, and the beginnings of his ascension to godhood. Several hundred years later, he was invoked again by Atraria, and though the war was won through his efforts, he was mortally wounded. He was only able to return his kin to their home plane, unable to maintain the Rift long enough to pass through himself.
Witnesses described it as watching a mighty inferno suddenly be snuffed out, and once where stood this behemoth of a man, there was but ash.
Thanks mainly to the continued worship of the people, Apius was, like many other gods, able to defy death by ascending to godhood. Though it took many more years before he could manifest again, the people took comfort in the thought that he was watching over them whenever the sun shone on them.
