Terra is a planet in the
Sol system in the
Milky Way. Formerly known as Earth, Terra is the original homeworld of
humanity. Terra was bathed in nuclear fire during an event that came to be known as the Cataclysm which killed most all of the humans who were unable to leave the planet prior to the event. In the wake of the cataclysm, the
Terran species evolved from surviving genetically enhanced human soldiers whos altered DNA reacted with the radiation in the atmosphere, causing them to mutate into a new species. Terra now stands as the homeworld of the
Terran Union but remains a place of significant cultural importance for the various human factions of the galaxy as well.
