Lawgiver Maz L.

Lawgiver Maz L. was born as Maz La'Az'A in 508 AC. Often regarded as a strong and capable leader by his supporters and a tyrant of republicanism by his enemies, Maz has been associated with the pro-republican movement for almost 30 years. Stern of expression, Maz is known for his hardcore Republican views on government organisation, cronyism and nobles rights, but has been notably absent from the democratic debates, mostly undecided on matters of electoral rights and merchant lobbying. Maz is often regarded by No Kil Tranquillomages as a cynic, without any keen intrest in the Tranquillomagic arts. He doesn't appear to be sensitive to Tranquillomancy.

Lawgiver Maz is the current Lawgiver of the Merchant State of No Kil. He was elected to his position with an outstanding majority of 12 in the Council of Traders, enough to win him a term of at least 12 years. He started his term in the year of 566, and narrowly won his midterm in 572 by a majority of 1. Lawgiver Maz, originally Maz La'Az'A, was born in 508 to the noble La'Az'A family, right at the beginning of the Great Drudgery, a time of corruption, proto-feudalism and anti-republican attitudes. Maz quickly abhorred the steadily increasing anti-republican sentiment of his elders and peers, stating that it was his "mission to restore our grand state to its former glory". Maz first entered office as a junior council member in 551, and vehemently opposed any legislation he thought anti-republican. This is not to say, however, that he was purely pro democratic, being famously lukewarm on the issue during the great "Democracy vs Plutocracy" debates of the early 560's. His policies worked very well with Lawgiver Zo M. (560-566) and it was during Zo's Republican Restoration (championed by Maz) that the Great Drudgery finally came to end. With the Trading Republican faction at the height of its popularity, even amongst non Plutocrats, and Lawgiver Zo's tenure closing in 566, Maz inherited the strongest, most devoted council of traders in living memory.
