Lux Oculi is the divine sight that pierces veils—of magic, emotion, or intent. It allows the Angelus to see not only what is, but what lies beneath. A flutter in the aura, a flicker of guilt, a glamour hiding rotting truth—none escape its gaze.
While subtle in its lower forms, at full strength it is revelation incarnate—ripping masks away and laying bare the soul.
Manifestations by Form
Human Form
Even with their divine nature muted, the Angelus sees what others don’t.
- Detects falsehoods: instinctual reaction to lies or deceit.
- Reads subtle auras: emotions, minor supernatural traces.
- May notice someone blushing for no reason, or shivering in guilt.
This makes them uncannily insightful in conversation—ideal for interrogations, flirting, or manipulation.
Angel Form
Unveiling their true nature sharpens their sight exponentially.
- Pierces illusions and illusions spells, glamour, or shapeshifting.
- Reveals demonic taint and spiritual corruption.
- Reads emotional states, intentions, and inner struggles at a glance.
An Angelus in this state might look through your eyes… and finish your sentence with what you really meant to say.
Archangel Form
The true gaze of heaven is not kind—but it is just.
- The “Gaze of Truth”: compels honesty, strips away false identity.
- Reveals a target’s core essence: hidden desires, sins, fears, virtues.
- Can blind creatures of darkness or leave them exposed and trembling.
Even high demons or ancient spirits avert their eyes, for Lux Oculi does not judge—it exposes, and leaves the judgment to you.
Subtle Uses
Though it can be devastating, Lux Oculi is also deeply empathetic when used with compassion:
- Helps read unspoken pain in trauma victims.
- Senses lies in a lover’s silence.
- Detects emotional distress in a crowd.
And yes—it’s deliciously handy when someone’s trying to seduce you under false pretenses.
Notes & Limitations
- Constant use can lead to emotional fatigue—knowing too much, too often.
- Some entities possess shielded souls that resist Lux Oculi.
- Seeing sin and shame can overwhelm even a strong-willed Angelus.
- The Gaze of Truth is not always ethical—consent matters, even in revelation.
Some Angelus blindfold themselves to avoid invading others’ inner sanctums. Others… indulge freely.
