Arl

Arl was the common language spoken in Veyetræll before the Invasion of the Trællites. Suppressed by the Invasion and largely forgotten by the masses during the Thousand Year Truce, it almost became a dead language and is now being kept secret by the Root Priests and the Irate Priests.   It is a sister language to the forgotten language of the Gods, which was taught to the children of Sylgadrig by Doeni himself almost ten millennia before.   Arlevon and Relvan are now the two descendants most spoken in Veyetraell. Veyetran has borrowed some expressions from Arlevon, but is not directly descended from Arl.

Writing System

Arl in written form is only in magical runes, as writing was purely utilitarian until the Invasion. Only the Priests, formerly the Holy Ones, have ever known Arl's written form, as it takes a lifetime to master.   As Arl is such a complex language to write, Arlevon evolved with less stringent rules and eventually developed its own writing very distantly derived from Arl runes. Then, writing became relatively more broad among the population, even though it was mostly an activity reserved for non-magical monks or scribes.

Common Phrases
"Epigheldm e ruhay menha" is the axiom of Radias, meaning "Never out of sight".
