Karmos Blinded Believer (Car-MOH-ss)
Karmos is a tiefling warlock who passionately worships The Machine. He has never met/seen the actual deity he serves, but through stories and run-ins with defiled/defilers he became quite passionate. He proclaimed The Machine as his new patron, and bolted/welded over half of his body with metal elements. During his transformation he removed his left eyeball, and filled his empty eye-socket with a copper mold meant to hold “his first reward”, as he believes the machine will bless him with an eye that is far better than his previous.
Karmos is a firm believer that he is an integral part in the uprising of The Machine. Due to his passion and demonstration of devotion to The Gears, he was named captain of a small group of metal-heads. Although he hasn’t had direct communication with any of the The Gadgets, orders have come through the chain of command to deem him with tasks to assist The Crab.
If the players go east towards the beginning of the campaign, they may run into him near The Wharf, The Wavering House, or the Tangled Temples. Most of his missions are intel/spy based to determine if The Elites are keeping their end of the bargain to embed The Machine with sacrifices and power. One important task he has been given is to assist The Crab’s unit of defiled to break into The Piece of Ship in The Wharf. He is to destroy the gates of the underwater sewers/canals so that minions of the crab can obtain precious metals, remove weapons from the inhabitants of The Wharf, and to obtain ships for travel of their own.
If the players begin westward and either don’t make it to that portion of the map or take a lengthy amount of time to get there, Karmos will most likely be heading north with a band of followers. It could be a calling to a higher task and position of increasing importance, or he may be fed up with not being recognized and heading to a different band of metal-heads to offer his services.
Karmos is not a coward, but due to his belief that he is such a crucial component to the success of The Machine he will not risk his life unless it is directly for a Gadget or The Machine. He is extremely stealthy and wants to fight at a far distance if combat is necessary. If things look at all bleak for him and his unit of metal-heads he will sneak off using pass without trace, darkness, or teleportation magic if later in the campaign.
