Xyrah Rathos
Helmsman Xyrah Rathos (a.k.a. The Silent Tide)
Xyrah Rathos – The Silent Tide of the Fangs of Morthal
A shadow upon the waves, Xyrah Rathos is one of the most enigmatic figures aboard *The Howling Tempest*. Born among the Selek’Var, the Phantom Seals of the Valtari, she was trained from a young age in the art of silent warfare. Unlike her kin, who remained hidden in the depths of the Frostfell Sea, Xyrah had an insatiable curiosity for the affairs of the surface world—particularly the naval powers that ruled it.
A master of stealth, assassination, and infiltration, she spent years as a ghost within the world’s oceans, listening from the dark corners of ports, cutting the throats of admirals in their beds, and tipping the balance of conflicts without ever being seen. The surface world never knew her name, but its tides shifted in the wake of her actions.
Her attention eventually turned to the Felleveign Theocracy, a nation whose cruelty knew no bounds. She had long known of their systematic enslavement of the Velgarin, but when she uncovered evidence of their growing slave trade, she could no longer remain a silent observer. Seeing the danger they posed, Xyrah began working in secret, sabotaging supply lines, eliminating key figures, and ensuring their naval fleets suffered mysterious misfortunes.
It was this silent war against the Theocracy that **led to her downfall**. While infiltrating The Silver Dagger, a warship transporting fresh Theocracy troops from Allcourt Keep to Bresbeck, Xyrah was ambushed and subdued by Theocracy inquisitors—mages trained to counter those like her. Bound in enchanted chains that stripped her of her speed and strength, she was cast into the ship’s brig, awaiting transport for interrogation and execution.
Fate, however, had other plans.
During a raid led by Reaper and the Fangs of Morthal, The Silver Dagger was torn apart before it could reach its destination. When Reaper found Xyrah imprisoned in the brig, he recognized the opportunity before him. With a single stroke, her bonds were broken, and the Silent Tide was unleashed once more.
Her razor-sharp claws and deadly precision turned the battle in an instant. The very soldiers who had captured her were slaughtered without mercy, their bodies left to sink with their doomed vessel.
Xyrah owed Reaper a debt for her freedom, and she repaid it by offering her skills, knowledge, and deadly efficiency to the Fangs of Morthal. She proved herself invaluable not only as a combatant and saboteur, but she also understood ocean currents in a way few surface dwellers ever could.
In time, she rose to the rank of Helmsman, guiding The Howling Tempest through treacherous waters, outmaneuvering the fastest ships, and ensuring that no enemy fleet could ever corner them. She was more than a sailor—she was a specter of the sea, striking from the shadows before vanishing beneath the waves.
Even now, many do not know of her existence. She is not a pirate who revels in glory or infamy. She remains a ghost in the world’s affairs, watching from the darkness, ensuring the tides shift as she wills them to.
And should the Theocracy ever rise too far from their sanctuaries, she will be there—a phantom, a reckoning, and a reminder that the sea does not forget.
