The Lancers
The Lancers are a mercenary group that operates outside of the law in the Hekkeran Empire. They are not licensed or recognized by the government, which means they are not bound by any laws or regulations that govern other mercenary groups. The Lancers are known for their ruthless and amoral nature, and they will accept any job as long as the pay is right, even if it means engaging in illegal activities or harming innocent people.
Unlike the Adventurers Guild, which has a strict ranking system based on an adventurer's skill and experience, The Lancers do not have any formal hierarchy or ranking system. Instead, they rely on a loose network of contacts and associates to find work and divide up the spoils. While some members of The Lancers may be skilled in combat or other areas, many are untrained and lack any real expertise.
Due to their unregulated nature, The Lancers are often involved in shady dealings and unsavory activities. They have been known to engage in smuggling, theft, and assassination, among other things. However, despite their reputation as a dangerous and unpredictable group, they are still sought after by some clients who are willing to pay top dollar for their services.
The Lancers themselves are a diverse group of individuals, united by their love of money and lack of scruples. Some members are former soldiers, while others are simply skilled fighters looking to make a quick buck. The group has no real leadership structure, with members coming and going as they please. However, there are a few more experienced members who are respected for their skills and knowledge, and who often take charge during jobs.
Despite their lack of ethics, the Lancers are known for getting the job done. They have a reputation for taking on jobs that no one else will touch, and for completing them quickly and efficiently. However, they are also known for their tendency to cause collateral damage and harm innocent people in the process. As such, they are not a group to be trusted or relied upon.
The Lancers operate inside The Last Embers Inn. The Last Ember's Inn is a two-story building located in a rougher area of El-Makath. It has a wooden exterior, with the sign of the inn - a burning ember - hanging over the entrance. The entrance to the inn is down a narrow and dark alleyway, which can be intimidating to those not familiar with the area.
Upon entering the inn, one is greeted by a large common room filled with tables and chairs. The walls are lined with torches, casting a flickering orange glow across the room. The floor is made of wooden planks, worn from years of use, and a large fireplace is situated at one end of the room, providing warmth and light.
Behind the bar is the innkeeper, a gruff and imposing man who keeps a watchful eye on the patrons. The bar is well-stocked with a variety of drinks, including ale, mead, and spirits. A small kitchen is located off to the side, where the inn's cooks prepare meals for the patrons.
Stairs located in the corner of the common room lead up to the second floor, where the inn's rooms are located. The rooms are simple and sparsely furnished, but clean and well-maintained. Each room contains a bed, a small table, and a washbasin.
It is in this inn that The Lancers operate, using one of the rooms on the second floor as their base of operations. The Lancers can often be found in the common room, discussing job offers and negotiating with clients.
