Born in the icy expanse of Falengaht, Tarn Galloway is a towering Ursain whose past is etched into the wood and steel of the ships he’s built. His white-furred, broad-shouldered frame belies a keen mind honed by years of experience, both as a navigator and a shipwright. Raised in a family of master shipbuilders, Tarn learned the art of crafting vessels meant to withstand ice-laden waters and howling gales from a young age.
Though his people were tied to the land, Tarn was drawn to the sea. The Frostfell tides called to him, and before long, he set sail beyond the frozen frontier, trading snowstorms for salt spray. His navigation is old-school, relying on the sun, stars, and the pull of the currents, rather than arcane instruments or Aetheric charts. He knows the ways of the waves as though they were an extension of himself, charting courses through uncharted waters and deadly ice floes with practiced ease.
But make no mistake—Tarn is more than a steady hand at the helm. He carries a ship anchor bound to a ten-foot rope, wielding it like a flail in combat. It’s a weapon of brutal efficiency, capable of smashing bones and sending foes plunging into the depths. In battle, he is a force of nature—unyielding, deliberate, and devastating.
Despite his gruff demeanor, Tarn is fiercely loyal to his captain, Reaper, and the crew of the Howling Tempest. He expects discipline aboard his ship but respects those who prove their worth. His wisdom and experience make him a voice of reason amidst the chaos, balancing Reaper’s ruthless efficiency with his own pragmatic approach. If the captain is the sword, Tarn is the shield—the unwavering presence that ensures the Howling Tempest never falters, even in the worst of storms.
He denies any romanticism about his role, simply stating:
"A shipwright builds. A navigator guides. And when the time comes, a sailor fights. That’s all there is to it."
