Evony Selarne
Captain Evony Selarne (a.k.a. "The Shadow Broker" , "Riptide")
Brief Overview
Evony Selarne is a pirate lord who thrives in the shadows, wielding charm, deception, and calculated ruthlessness to maintain her grip on the seas. Unlike the more brutal captains of the Black Council, Evony rarely resorts to direct confrontation—why waste resources in battle when you can manipulate the board from the sidelines? A half-Nightshade Elf with a reputation for cunning and extravagance, she commands the Bleak Rock Sirens, a crew of expert smugglers, spies, and saboteurs. She operates not just through piracy, but through a vast network of bribes, blackmail, and under-the-table dealings.
Though she only earned her place among the Black Council in 472 AEL, she has quickly proven herself as a formidable force, trading valuable information and fostering uneasy alliances. Some whisper that her rise to power was too fast, hinting at hidden backers or secret pacts. Evony herself merely smiles and lets the rumors grow.
Evony "Riptide" Selarne is not the most feared pirate on the seas, but she is perhaps the most dangerous. Where others use cannons and steel, she wields whispers and secrets. She plays the long game, always moving the pieces on the board, always ensuring she is three steps ahead. And if she ever finds herself at a disadvantage?
Well… no one ever sees her leave a sinking ship.

Personal history
Born in the back alleys of Al-Hajjad, Evony’s early life was spent learning how to survive in a world of cutthroats and thieves. Her mother, a Nightshade Elf courtesan, taught her the art of persuasion and deception, while her father—who she never met—left her only whispers of a noble bloodline she never cared to claim. By sixteen, she was already running confidence scams and smuggling contraband through the city’s underbelly.
Her true rise to infamy came in 465 AEL, when she and a handful of hired blades hijacked an entire merchant convoy bound for Al-Hajjad, outwitting seasoned naval escorts and walking away with enough wealth to establish her first ship, the Darkbreak Siren. From there, she built a reputation for herself as a master of infiltration and sabotage, gaining favor with powerful merchants, corrupt officials, and pirate lords alike.
Her entry into the Black Council was not through brute strength but through leveraged secrets—she uncovered dirt on an aging pirate lord and used it to buy her seat at the table. Now, she plays the long game, weaving her influence into the cracks between the pirate factions and the empires that hunt them.
Education
Learned the arts of espionage, deception, and trade negotiation from Al-Hajjad’s underworld.
Fluent in several dialects, allowing her to blend into different cultures and broker deals effortlessly.
Well-versed in alchemy and poisons, often using subtle toxins as leverage in negotiations.
Morality & Philosophy
Power is knowing more than the other person. Secrets are more valuable than gold, and knowing when to use them is an art.
Violence is a tool, not a solution. Brute force is for the unimaginative; the truly powerful never need to raise a sword.
Loyalty is conditional. She does not believe in unwavering devotion—alliances shift like the tides, and she is always ready to adapt.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
To maintain control over her smuggling empire. Her rise to power was swift, and she must ensure it stays that way.
To manipulate the Black Council from the shadows. She sees the council not as a governing body, but as a game of strategy that she intends to win.
To uncover and claim an even greater power. Be it through wealth, magic, or influence, she is always searching for an edge over her rivals.
Social
Contacts & Relations
Orlann "Black Tide" Veskar – Keeps a watchful eye on him. She knows he is too powerful to oppose directly, so she ensures he is never too focused on her.
Mariva "Seablood" Vask – They share mutual interests in smuggling and trade, though Evony often wonders just how deep Mariva’s secrets run.
Gorthal "Iron Gills" Greyfin – A necessary evil in her eyes. She keeps her distance but ensures she never openly opposes him.
Naiz "Cutlass" Achurr – The closest thing she has to a friend among the council. His dramatic flair amuses her, and they often share useful information.
Inessa "Moon Blade" Kay – A wildcard. Evony does not trust zealots, and she watches Inessa carefully for any sign of religious fanaticism.
The Bleak Rock Sirens – Her loyal crew, a mix of spies, assassins, and smugglers who operate in cells, ensuring no single betrayal can undo their operations.
Corrupt Officials and Nobles – She has cultivated a web of contacts in Granheim, Nidira, and Al-Hajjad who turn a blind eye to her activities—for the right price.
