Acounts mentioning Dragon-slaying arms date back to the Breaking War as they played a key part in the conflict and allowing the other races to fight the great beasts.
Over the centuries following the war, many of the surviving weapons have been lost to time.

Significance

Dragon-slaying arms were key in overthrowing the ancient dragons from their throne above the other races. However, they did not come without a price. As most accounts point towards Dwarves being the original creators of the weapons, it is commonly theorized that the dragons were responsible for the the dwarves dying out as retaliation.
