During the Epoch, the Vodranti- then known by a different name- had slept within the cryo-caskets of their spacecraft to endure the thaumaturgic apocalypse of the Sol System. This time spent dead had a severe affect on the Vodranti and their culture. Once they had awoken, the Long Death was over. Some seek to meditate on it to also undergo such a revelation and to go through the 'small deaths' of exsanguination.

Each king died over the course of centuries, and once the last lord, the Old King of Stone, perished, there was nothing uniting the Vodranti beyond the small world of Ceres, then known as the Yauu. Several clans were formed in their wake.
Ayanna sends several armies of the undead with necromancer leaders to attack the many scattered colonies of Mars- most importantly, several Vodranti colonies. This action brings the squabbling of the Vodrant Clans to a close and leads them to unite against this common enemy.
