Asteriod Field

The Asteroid Field is a large 'belt' of stray celestial mass in a vague torus shape, with most of its mass situated between Mars and Jupiter. Despite common imagery, the asteroid belt is spare and a manned ship will easily be able to avoid the passing asteroids. However, there are materials able to be harvested from these asteroids, namely silicon, carbon, and other metals. Most of these operations are handled either by the Vodranti or the Gas Barons, and these operations are the main reason for the fairly stable relationship between the two. On Ceres, the largest body within the field is the Empress' pretorii, or her 'fortress', where she supposedly resides, alongside the majority of the 13th Legion, the 'Imperial Legion', a force composed of warriors selected from each Legion deemed 'of sufficient skill and loyalty to serve the Empress'. The Pretorii is the 13th's legatus, and the Empress their Gesala. In addition, the 1st and 8th Legions have their Legatii orbit Ceres, and have several mining stations established on the planetoid and nearby celestial bodies. The planetoid Vesta hosts the 5th Legion's Legatus and their home stations. Pallas, the third-largest, hosts the 6th Legion. Hygiea was controlled by the 7th Legion but is currently disputed between the 7th and the 12th.
