Vessarim
1428DM
The year is 1428DM (Deus Mortem). The world has settled into a cautious balance following the defeat of the Kabal, though the scars of their meddling remain strong. Undead have returned, and the dark magic of the Shadowfell still suffuses the land. Yet the master hands orchestrating such strife are now gone, and the kingdoms devestated in their wake are finally able to begin rebuilding. To the north, the shadow of the Frostmaiden still lingers over the rebuilding north - free at last from Her eternal winter - and to the south the expansions of the Talbarad Empire have finally slowed. The potential threat of the Ur, mysterious still and far off, but powerful beyond compare, remains ever present amongst the courts of the world. And yet the fear of them has united many powers the world over to investigate as best they can, sending agents out on the long journey across Vessarim to their emergence point. Nations once considered bitter rivals now send teams side by side far from their homes in the hopes of learning if this new race are the next threat to the known world, and in doing so their home nations are settled for now. Through this shaky peace, alliances are still being drawn by those hoping to maintain it, whilst others enviously eye the lands of their fellows, sharpening blades behind their backs. All sides wait to see what will come, and whilst many still strive to forge a better world for all, recent years have proven the presence of great evil still lingers in the land.
The world may not be facing any world-ending threats to its own knowledge, but there are still many dark corners of Vessarim, and the continent of Valnest is far from spared of this. Vampires still hold Vinnolant, enslaving the once proud nation to their sadistic will. To the north, trade between Eastern and Western Valnest remains strangled as Kremvaria - the only land bridging the two - remains in turmoil, its capital shrouded in unstable magics and no royal line to speak of. Shadowy cults worshipping old powers still dot the landscape across the continent, hoping to catch the eye of fell beings long since forgotten by other mortals. Scholars the world over, however, are more concerned with what appears to be the slow draining of magic from the world, fearing that whatever is causing it is a greater threat than any could concieve. Others still think this world's time has come, and magic will leave to never return regardless of the actions of those concerned by this.
Many claim a new age of heroes is nigh, others cry that an age of darkness has not been prevented, only forestalled. Only time will tell...
