Commonwealth of Avalon
Avalon is the literal and figurative center of the Eastern Territories. Located almost exactly in the center of the eastern seaboard, it has access to both the Great Bay and the Black Mountains, as well as controlling the vital north-to-south trade roads that run all along the coast. Its size also allows it to support a diverse population, and there are settlements of many different races throughout.
Structure
Avalon is a constitutional monarchy, with the King of Caledonia as its ceremonial head of state and a Governor who oversees the actual running of the commonwealth. (In practice, however, Caledonia has devolved most powers to Avalon itself.) Beneath the Governor there are a multitude of ministries and departments that oversee different aspects of government, and equal to the Governor, a House of Burgesses who are elected by the citizens to make the laws.
Agriculture & Industry
Avalon sits on a former floodplain between the Unaka Mountains and the Great Bay, and its soil supports a variety of agricultural operations. The bulk of its farming focuses on cash crops like cotton, smokeweed, and peanuts, as well as being famous for their cured meats; the region around the Bay relies heavily on fishing, mainly crab. In the northern region, there are great pasturelands that have become known as a major center of horse ranching. In the mountains, human and dwarvish mines pull prodigious amounts of coal from the ground. The main urban centers such as Arthursburg have a steadily growing industrial side, particularly in textiles made from local cotton.
