Sovereign Order of the Western Star
Structure
The Western Star is organized along the same general lines as the Temple itself. Clerics and paladins form the bulk of the order, with a small minority of other divine magic users such as theurgic wizards, celestial warlocks, and psalmist bards serving as auxiliaries in both divisions. Both divisions have twelve degrees of rank, plus novitiates at the very bottom and their respective leaders, the Prior of Clerics and the Grandmaster of Paladins, at the top.
Above both divisions stands the Prelate, an individual with qualifications from both sides. The Prelate is elected by the Council: the Prior and seven High Priest(esse)s representing the clerical division, and the Grandmaster, and Knights-Commander from the paladin division. Their term is either for life or, in some extraordinary cases, until formally deposed by the Council.
History
The Western Star originated as a loose association of paladins and other holy warriors. They have protected travelers and settlers in the New World since not long after the founding of Avalon; their first Grandmaster was trained by a paladin who traveled on the first colony ship.
With the discovery of the central frontiers and their innumerable ruins, the Western Star, with permission from the territories, established their own outpost on the banks of the Veritas River. This grew over the years from a tiny wooden fort to a fully fledged entity unto itself.
