Ennesland

Structure

Within Ennesland there are two primary branches of Government.
  • Headmaster: The primary leader of the University and often considered the more powerful leader in the eyes of the public, the Headmaster has the final say on the placement of the various Islands and controls the skeletal and gargoyle reserves in event of attacks. The Headmaster is voted in by the members of the faculty and students of the university and its associates.
  • Republic chancellor: While most see the Headmaster as leader of Ennesland, the truth is most of the political issues that arise from a country are handled by the Chancellor. While less important in the eyes of the wealthy citizenry, the people that live outside of the cities (Farms, villages, and the smaller unrisen towns.) rely more heavily on the chancellor to supply defences and aid. The Chancellor controls the "Drop" after the last time it was done and the act was called into question on whether the University should have that much power, additionally, the Chancellor controls the vast majority of political functions (Ambassadors, embassies, treaties) and while unofficial, they typically have strong ties to the volunteer Militia. The Chancellor is voted in by those unaffiliated with the university (Citizens, former students, retired faculty) and any church members below Bishops.

Assets

What's easily considered the greatest resource of Ennesland is the magical manipulation of its university, things like creating enchantments and supplying magic scrolls. Additionally, they have the largest library and contain some of the oldest information available in Vesax.
While less glamorous than magic, Ennesland also has large forests and provide lumber to other countries, primarily with Sykegnland. This foresting is closely monitored due to treaties with druids, fey, and other forest-dwelling creatures.

History

During the Orstad empire, the territory that became Ennesland was a hive for Orstad researchers and a popular vacation spot for Orstad nobility. Most of the slaves here existed as research assistants, pleasure slaves or as basic household slaves.
During the liberation war, Ennesland was instrumental in cutting off much of Orstads conqueror troops and using the magic that they had been experimenting with against them. The leader of these liberated slaves was a former test subject named Abadon Mournwing, the current headmaster of the University.

Demography and Population

The vast majority of people in Ennesland live in the capital city Bilhus, more than 1.6 million. Additionally, there are several other popular cities that also float like the capital and have populations that range in the high thousands. Unlike the large cities, there are small, typically walled towns and villages that contain very small populations.
People In Ennesland tend to have much longer lifespans due to the advanced healing magics and medical sciences within the cities, however, accidental deaths are more common due to the high number of experiments with dangerous materials.

Military

Despite the large bank of power available to it with its large number of spell casters, Ennesland has no official military and instead relies on the armies of its allies and the small volunteer militia.
They also have a large reserve of skeletons and gargoyles in the city that, should they ever be threatened, will be activated and swarm their enemies. The skeletons are provided by deceased citizens if they give permission prior to their death.

Technological Level

The level of science and magic in Ennesland are well beyond that of most other countries thanks to their allowance of study and experiments banned in most other countries. One group that has advanced years beyond anywhere else is the non-magic medical field thanks to the allowance to perform autopsies and experimenting with cadavers.

Religion

Ennesland prides itself on the fact any form of worship is allowed within the country, including demon and fey worship alongside the common gods. However, every group is extremely closely monitored and watched with harsh and strict punishment if members commit crimes against the country or its citizens.

Foreign Relations

The most significant relation Ennesland has is the central alliance, this group currently includes Ennesland, Sykengland and most recently, Mondlicht.
For the most part, Ennesland remains neutral in regards to other countries unless involved with their allies.

Trade & Transport

While it may not provide a variety of goods, Ennesland is a major figure in trading due to its central placement and has visiting merchants that provide items that typically may not be available.

Education

Ennesland is the first country to offer to school to all citizens and provide free housing to those while they attend school. Most citizens begin schooling around ages 5-8 and attend till graduation or stay to extend their lessons and join the University.
Every city has at least one school and many of the small towns have small schoolhouses to provide basic education to those unable to go to the cities for a full course.

Infrastructure

The most unique aspect of Enneslands infrastructure is the fact the large cities are floating several hundred feet above the ground. Both as a show of the sheer amount of magic the country controls and as a way to protect the areas from monster attacks.
To ensure the well being of its citizens, Ennesland has constructed roads between most important areas and has Sykengland patrol their borders thanks to the Central Alliance.
They also have indoor plumbing in most of the cities and use magic to ensure a measure of comfort for their citizens.
