Maul Character in Verum | World Anvil

Maul

Duke of Daborak A#1 Maul (a.k.a. Maul)

"Me Maul! Me king now!" Often the last words heard by champions of bandit troupes and other organizations unfortunate to be bested by him in combat. Accompanied by the vision of his angry face and the large flat end of his maul coming towards their face.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

A large well built Goliath towering at 9 feet 7 inches tall. His body is a well built fortress of muscles and mass fine tuned from constant fighting and physical work weighing roughly 650 pounds.

Facial Features

A large maul has been carved as a Linnormous tattoo into Maul's face. Sadly no longer a member of the faction its magical properties have faded. Maul still wears it proudly.

Identifying Characteristics

Ginormous Height
Large maul tattoo carved into his face.

Mental characteristics

Gender Identity

Male

Education

Maul is semi literate after investing months to learn and read while staying at the freemen's bar.   Maul originally couldn't read or write, but took the time to pummel a few people into telling him how to write, "King Maul". However, he has not mastered the writing of Maul and often uses the wrong lettering or reversed letters leading to confusion as to who the King on his makeshift graffiti / banners is.   Maul struggles with math and counting in general. He relies on his fingers and cannot count beyond 10. Often relying on others for buying things or sorting them out, if he doesn't just upright take things.

Employment

Chef at The Freemen's Pub Hired originally by Takar   He now serves the new chapter master Osven and the rest of the freemen a variety of sea themed pub foods that are surprisingly good.

Failures & Embarrassments

The Mozzarella Massacre. Maul failed to stop the horrors from the enemy above in destroying what he vaguely remembers was a party in the now barren place that was called Mozzarella.

Mental Trauma

Death of his friend Ardan at the hands of Lorita worshipers He dislikes those who worship Lorita for the most part.

Morality & Philosophy

"ME MAUL! ME KING!"   Maul respects only strength, be it physical or magical. Anyone as powerful as him or stronger he'll follow. Until he gets strong enough to best them. Then they better follow him! As a result of this Maul is always looking for a fight to show who should be leading who.   Maul has a loose concept of what a leader is. He knows they command a lot of people and make laws. Maul has no understanding of the finer points but believes that the strongest person is the leader and likes the idea of bossing everyone else around. This is why he refers to himself as a king over everyone he beats.   Maul does not understand the concept of lying very well.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Maul is motivated by a thirst to always get stronger and more powerful. Maul has a loose concept of what a leader is. They make the rules and decide everything so he endlessly seeks to be stronger to keep that.

Likes & Dislikes

Likes: Fightin   Dislikes: Wordy words. The Weak

Social

Contacts & Relations

"Family" Grary (Brarm, Drarm, and Grarm 3 goblins in a trenchcoat.)   Treepo & Stormy - A mysterious Avocado Tree, with human faces and linnorm energy that resides outside the Maw with its zephyr lilly friend Stormy.   Mako - Kuo-Toa Quartermaster of Linnorm Lords   Bahra - Ambassador of the Linnorm Lords   Habwen - Lord in Linnorm Lords   Leo - Lord in the Linnorm Lords   Khapros - Lord in the Linnorm Lords

Religious Views

Gods are workout routines. He worships Astaroth because he wants to get as strong as him and then fight him to see whose stronger.

A Goliath great in strength and size, but not wit, who revels in fights. Maul respects the strong. Maul refers to himself as the king of anyone he bests and they must follow his will or be smashed.

FEATS:
Lucky
You have inexplicable luck that seems to kick in at just the right moment.

You have 3 luck points. Whenever you make an attack roll, an ability check, or a saving throw, you can spend one luck point to roll an additional d20.

You can choose to spend one of your luck points after you roll the die, but before the outcome is determined.

You can also spend one luck point when an attack roll is made against you. Roll a d20, and then choose whether the attack uses the attacker's roll or yours. If more than one creature spends a luck point to influence the outcome of a roll, the points cancel each other out; no additional dice are rolled.

You regain your expended luck points when you finish a long rest.

Great Weapon Master
You've learned to put the weight of a weapon to your advantage, letting its momentum empower your strikes. You gain the following benefits:
On your turn, when you score a critical hit with a melee weapon or reduce a creature to 0 hit points with one, you can make one melee weapon attack as a bonus action.
Before you make a melee attack with a heavy weapon that you are proficient with, you can choose to take a -5 penalty to the attack roll. If the attack hits, you add +10 to the attack's damage.

ACTIVE ABILITIES:
Second Wind
You have a limited well of stamina that you can draw on to protect yourself from harm. On your turn, you can use a bonus action to regain hit points equal to 1d10 + your fighter level.

Action Surge
Starting at 2nd level, you can push yourself beyond your normal limits for a moment. On your turn, you can take one additional action.

Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again. Starting at 17th level, you can use it twice before a rest, but only once on the same turn.

Stone's Endurance
You can focus yourself to occasionally shrug off injury. When you take damage, you can use your reaction to roll a d12. Add your Constitution modifier to the number rolled, and reduce the damage by that total. After you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

PASSIVE ABILITIES:

Fighting Style: Great Weapon Fighting

When you roll a 1 or 2 on a damage die for an attack you make with a melee weapon that you are wielding with two hands, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll, even if the new roll is a 1 or a 2. The weapon must have the two-handed or versatile property for you to gain this benefit.
