Genasi

Request nothing, Regret nothing, Corrupt nothing.

Well I don't trust the fire ones...too hot-headed. Give any Gensai a chance to look at the outside world and they will take it. They will travel beyond The Shimmer and back, they would hold off a hydra or stare down a dragon, they appear fearless. That is until you ask any Genasi to look inward. To look at their own actions and consequences. Wow...there's a world even they won't want to venture into.
— Flow, Water Genasi talking about his own race

Championed for Redress

All Genasi I have encountered wear their colours on the outside. There is no metaphor here, what I say I say literally. A fire genasi skin will spark with orange and red while a water genasi will bubble and flow with blue and pale hands. The genasi are an interesting race to explore and befriend because of this transparency.

In older times they used to prefer to live in the places that most represent them however recently they have all immigrated to the sky cities of Verra'Talu. The Genasi nature is one of isolation but with limited space in airborn cities they are now forced to socalise. As sure as the Shimmer! They are now found in pairs. These pairs are complimentary to the nature of each other. Fire Genasi will be found with Air Genasi and Water with Earth. Once they have found their complimentary they will remain friends or lovers for life. It is this relationship that has given rise to the phrase "grew like a genasi" which means two individuals growing together. Most Genasi live up to nine decades while some of the more hearty can live a century. Can you imagine knowing the same person for more than a century?

While astonishing to think about their physical characteristics their personality does leave a lot to be desired. In all my dealings with the Star Saved the genasi strike me as a race divided and polarized. The phrase "Genasi stand alone, we stand apart" comes to mind. They have convinced themselves that they are better than other who stand before them. Their hubris takes root from the fact that these land of Verra’Talu always belonged to the genasi. They were never rescued like the other races. Bhaal the God of Death (Ukufa lead your way those who have passed) took the life of an Eidolon many aeons ago. They were the leaders of the elemental people and hearing their master fall sent the genas into a mortal confusion. Bhaal The god of Death (Ukufa lead your way those who have passed) saw their lost ways and wanted to right the wrong he committed. He took the genasi into his care shielding them from the world until they calmed themselves. They were never “rescued” from the Shattered moon, simply taken under a new gods wing. Spared as an act of penance. Nothing more, Nothing less.

Natural Home

Believe it or not the Genasi are natives of Verra'Talu. They have spoken to me saying because of their close affiliation with the elemental forces of this world they often see things before they happen. At the start of the calamity with buffering wind and stony earth the Genasi decided to help the other races. A rare occurrence indeed but it later transpired they were also helping themselves in the process. The genasi separated the cities of the world from the earth underneath. They did this in a great show of force to the nations of Verra'Talu and as away of constantly looking down upon us; something that comes too naturally for the Genasi. For this to work however all four sub types of the genasi race had to work together.

Fire Genasi

When the sky cities lifted into the air the inhabitants found out two very important things. One they would never be Air Sailors, two the higher the altitude the colder it got. Heat is the fire genasi's specialty and so they set to work. The fire genasi created great pillars of light that warmed the whole city. An odd byproduct of these pillars of light is their ability to amplify the magical forces at work, the genasi have no idea how or why this happens. The fire genasi are also tasked with maintaining this column of intense heat and all the machinery around the cities. They are hot to the touch definitely. I have felt the flame of a fire genasi myself but that is another story...
Air Genasi
Air.png
Air Genasi were probably the most influential in the rising of the cities. Their innate magical knowledge and ability to shape the winds to their command helped the cities carve out a cavern from the ground. This task had to be meticulously planned. Too much space and the Air Genasi would be spent before the task was completed, if too little the inhabitants would not have enough space to thrive. It is the air genasi's mastery of the winds that keep the city in the sky. These gensai are often seen as leaders among their people, though some would argue they are filled with nothing but hot air.

Water Genasi
Water.png
There any many things people require to sustain themselves. Entertainment, love and drink. The water genasi helped keep the rivers of the sky city flowing. Even as the city was launched into the sky the the fluid still moved as if on flat earth; the genasi claim sole responsibility for this. Admittedly it is more of a miracle than an exact science. A water genasi's mood is said to be influenced by the weather and is something they have slight control over. Though to the city's demise, water genasi prefer the rain. It is very much in their nature to be adaptive, to carve out their own path, such like the rivers that flow all across Verra'Talu.
Earth Genasi
Earth.png
Their brains are stronger than the root of trees though they debate among themselves if this is an insult or a complement. The earth genasi are the hard workers and ox's of the floating cities and they are busy! For in all of Verra'Talu there are none who claim to know weights and measurements better than the genasi. What jewels and ore they find in the earth they sell for a profit. This money is then pumped back into the city for the benefit of all its citizens. Making a few earth genasi very popular in the skies.

Fairy Guide.png

Born with a Passion

Genasi aren't born into this world. Instead a place is chosen by some divine providence and the unseen elemental forces surge to that location. The elements mix and buffet one another until a victor emerges. Then these unseen forces spill over into the material plane and a Genasi is born. Its colour representing the victor of this great struggle. The sky cities are often chasing these unseen currents, ready to pick up new citizens to their floating haven.

Never contented

Even with their lofty position among the clouds the Genasi still desire an adventurous life. It is this reason that some of them reject and forsake their sky cities and chose instead to mingle with us lowly commoners. We, and those who have forsaken their home, are known as Grass-walkers. It is an insult but one I chose to wear proudly for my grass walking has taken me to all corners of this realm. For a Genasi the drive to explore and reach all corners of this world is what brings them down here in the first place. the need to know more is said to be a trait among all their kind. It's just some are better at suppressing it than others. My how the mighty have fallen...sometimes literally it would seem.

Four major subraces of genasi are found among the denizens of Verra'Talu. As a Genasi you must pick one of these four subraces. Their abilities are outlined below.   Air Genasi

Air Genasi

As an air genasi, you are descended from the djinn. As changeable as the weather, your moods shift from calm to wild and violent with little warning, but these storms rarely last long.   Air genasi typically have light blue skin, hair, and eyes. A faint but constant breeze accompanies them, tousling the hair and stirring the clothing. Some air genasi speak with breathy voices, marked by a faint echo. A few display odd patterns in their flesh or grow crystals from their scalps.

Earth Genasi

Earth Genasi

As an earth genasi, you are descended from the cruel and greedy dao, though you aren’t necessarily evil. You have inherited some measure of control over earth, reveling in superior strength and solid power. You tend to avoid rash decisions, pausing long enough to consider your options before taking action.   Elemental earth manifests differently from one individual to the next. Some earth genasi always have bits of dust falling from their bodies and mud clinging to their clothes, never getting clean no matter how often they bathe. Others are as shiny and polished as gemstones, with skin tones of deep brown or black, eyes sparkling like agates. Earth genasi can also have smooth metallic flesh, dull iron skin spotted with rust, a pebbled and rough hide, or even a coating of tiny embedded crystals. The most arresting have fissures in their flesh, from which faint light shines.

Fire Genasi

As a fire genasi, you have inherited the volatile mood and keen mind of the efreet. You tend toward impatience and making snap judgments. Rather than hide your distinctive appearance, you exult in it.   Nearly all fire genasi are feverishly hot as if burning inside, an impression reinforced by flaming red, coal- black, or ash-gray skin tones. The more human-looking have fiery red hair that writhes under extreme emotion, while more exotic specimens sport actual flames dancing on their heads. Fire genasi voices might sound like crackling flames, and their eyes flare when angered. Some are accompanied by the faint scent of brimstone.

Water Genasi

The lapping of waves, the spray of sea foam on the wind, the ocean depths—all of these things call to your heart. You wander freely and take pride in your independence, though others might consider you selfish.   Most water genasi look as if they just finished bathing, with beads of moisture collecting on their skin and hair. They smell of fresh rain and clean water. Blue or green skin is common, and most have somewhat overlarge eyes, blue-black in color. A water genasi’s hair might float freely, swaying and waving as if underwater. Some have voices with undertones reminiscent of whale song or trickling streams.
