Silver Ooze

The Elder Spirits left behind many things when they ascended. A few still exist to carry out their will on Veron, and a few, like the Silver Oozes, can still receive instruction from them.   A silver Ooze Is a machine made up of billions of microscopic robots, or 'nanites', working in tandem, directed by a small computerized 'nucleus' somewhere inside.   Elder Spirits only have limited influence in the physical world, requiring great effort to move the smallest of pebbles, Which makes a nanite colony the perfect interface. An Elder Spirit need only move molecule-sized components in order to give instruction to the Ooze and any of its networked brethren. Therefore, warlocks of Elder Spirits often keep Silver Oozes as minions or familiars in order to facilitate communication with their patron.

Utility

A silver ooze has a variety of uses to those who can control them; First and foremost, A silver ooze can gradually disassemble anything it touches on the molecular level. This can have an effect not dissimilar to acid to the casual observer. Secondly, The individual Nanites can link together to become extremely durable, and self-repairing, objects. They've been used to bar doors, become melee weaponry for their masters, or restrain enemies.   It should be noted, though, that Oozes are extremely vulnerable to variations in temperature. a small fire can very easliy melt down several-million nanites on the molecular level in milliseconds. Likewise, A chilly substance like Liquid nitrogen can compress and shatter molecular bonds. In either extreme, the Ooze can eventually recover if they can get time to reassemble the destroyed nanites, but it is significantly less efficient than simply moving back into position after being displaced by a bullet or a hammer.

So i love the idea of like, an ooze or the like from dnd, being converted to a scifi setting, and this is done quite well here. Id hate to meet one of these face to face. I can imagine some horrible events befalling an unsuspecting party, though it does seem the process of basically dissolving someone is slow, but that just means it's more painful. well done!

well nanites can do many, many actions per second. It might go faster than you think. Also, I might add that the friction of doing those millions of actions per second can actually generate enough heat to burn on contact. that's SCIENCE!

... now its gray goo horror! I love it XD oof yeah. The heat could be a problem for sure. It may have to reach a balance so that it doesnt melt itself. Given it's so sensitive to temp, perhaps it has a specific speed at which is safe, but iis probably just as dangerous for organic materials

Oh yeah that's a good point. I think I'll go with the uncomfortably warm route for now.   And yes, this was inspired by gray goo.
